You aren't getting much response because this topic has been beat to death on countless threads. If you do a search, you'll find extensive information on the differences between engines, hulls, aftermarket parts and availability, pumps, poles, etc. etc.

From what I remember, the Octane has pretty decent topend. It's too heavy to have superb bottom end, but the parts are all there (mag pump, b-pipe, etc).
It also turns kind of weird.
If you really like the Kawi handling but want freestyle type bottom end without losing the topend - maybe look into an aftermarket, lightweight SXR style hull that will accept all parts from a stock SXR.
Losing 100lbs or more off the stock hull setup will do wonders for the bottom end.

I agree, jaxrider runs a Wamiltons SXR hull in the surf that is around 100 lbs lighter than stock and is a very fun ride. He has a few of the usual bolt-ons too but spent his money on the hull instead of the engine and is much further ahead.

The big advantage is a good motor plus b-pipe and mag pump stock.
The downside are strange handling and heavy weight. Some people love the handling. It turns very flat, so someone expecting SXR style rail turns would be disappointed. But the weight is certainly there. :haha:

The octane is a great ski. It has tons of power, just now as much as the SJ can put out on the low end. The ski does seem wide and heavy, but once you get use to it, its fine. I would lighten the flywheel for sure on it to give it more pop and refoam it. They are prone to wet foam. I think it would make a better surf boat than a flat water one.
