Hey guys

Just wanted your thoughts on this

Today was the first day I tested my new solas mag pump. To be honest I wasn't left speechless, I was hoping that I would have to ask NASA for permission to fly to the moon but I could hardly feel a increase of thrust or anything

After months of research reading up how amazing it was , how it improved hookup thrust etc I was left feeling a little disappointed

Maybe I havn't got my ski set up sweet or something just was expecting a lot more after the sworn testimonials

Top end was nice but lacked the bottom out the hole grunt

My current setup

2009 yamaha superjet
701 stock electronics
38 carbs jetting to the maniacs specs
B-pipe ( bottom screw open 3/4) even tried opening top 1/8th
Filters
Stock big hub prop

Most will say change the prop but guys seem to get great results with the stock large hub prop as well

Maybe I'm expecting to much for my setup?

Anyone care to chip in their thoughts?

In running very similar set up to yours with a 710 maniac,38's, Bpipe and the solas mag with a 10/16 Hooker n it runs great. Lots of compliments on the hook up and power. I'm no tuning pro tho. I'm sure some guys will chime in with good info.

I had the same thing when I installed my Solas mag, I got it with a 13/17. I was less than impressed with the thrust too, it was pretty sluggish on the bottom end. Now I have a 10/16 and it's a night and day difference, pulls hard all the way through now.

We have 9/15 and 10/16 hookers in our jets with solas pump and love them 9/15 in 701 pipe and msd, 10/16 in ported 718 pipe and msd each as good as each other

The stock 08 prop is supposed to be a very good all around prop similar to the Hooker 9/15 so you should be pretty close already. The Solas Mag will load down an engine so if you don't have you're tuning close then it could pull the whole thing down. BK's suggestion of upgrading your CDI unit would probably be a very good step in the right direction since you really need it to bump your rev limiter and bring your pipe alive. The extra power will get you closer to that impeller too.

How good was your pipe and carb tuning before you installed the Solas Mag?

im running the 10-16 and it pulls hard in the middle but does lack the bottom end punch that the 9-15 has. iv rode the same set up side by side and the 9-15 is a better prop for mild engine setups.

Not that I know all that much about impellers, but keep in mind I have an ss865 with my 10/16, so a 9/15 would probably be better for you.

X2, go with the 9-15

our 850 run great with 10-16 and i ran a ADA910cc 5mil last spring and the 11-17 was nice

imo rev limiter make the engine come alive !! Do both MSD and 9-15 but if you cant the stock 08+ prop do the job, buy a MSD.
