You think 50mph? I've never radar'd myself, but on glass with a 9/15 I felt like I was only going like 35-40mph. But really, that was just going off my butt-spedo.
Yea I think so, skat mag w medium cone, with stock bore raider nozzle and my freak.

Bend your stock impeller, raise the outside trailing edge until the distance between the blades are almost the same as the leading edge. I installed a Wetwolf and never tested the stock cone so cant say if it is actually in the way. If you buy a new prop get a Hooker 9-15 or Skat equivalent, The Solas is too much load.

im running the 10-16 and it pulls hard in the middle but does lack the bottom end punch that the 9-15 has. iv rode the same set up side by side and the 9-15 is a better prop for mild engine setups.

Shaun, I think we should swap pumps one day for sh!ts and giggles.

I really want to try out that 10/16.

After reading about the glorified mag pump, I too expected a lot more. I first tested it on the lake and really, wasn't overly impressed, like you.

In the surf, yeah, night a day difference.

I went with a solas and a hooker 10/16 on my 701 SN. I think my low end snap is about the same, but my hookup is insane. I think i am slightly overpropped, but i cannot complain at all about the hookup. I dont need to time waves properly in order to launch em...can WFO over chop, its really great.

When i get some more motor upgrades or a lighter hull, i think the low end will show where the stock pump would just be cavitating.

Another vote for enhancer, the mag hype pertains more to white water...bored nozzle as mentioned will increase low end pull but you will lose a little top end maybe 2 to 3 mph...the more mods you add the more the mag will deliver power to the water.

I remember my pump cone for my stock pump was a joke. Maybe ill try out a new pump gone on my mag too. Thanks for the suggestions guys.

The stock pump cone does not restrict internal flow at all. The Solas mag cone is so tight that I did not take a chance knowing that a short cone wont hurt low speed thrust.

I run the Solas Mag and the stock 08+ prop. Noticed a positive difference everywhere. Flat and surf. Very impressed with this pump. You might be cavitating. I also noticed that the pump really shines when you ride harder.

If you don't notice a difference with the solas mag on flatwater, something else in your ski / pump combo is not tuned right...I had to try a few impellers, fine-tune the carbs better (actually used a snail and a tach, etc) and when it was right it was a big difference. Still need to try the shorter cone, but at least I know that I'm on the right track.

I installed it over last winter, I bought it form the first batch thrust released so when I tested it there was a large gap between the time I previously rode. I also switched to the BlackJack carbs at the same time. It was hard to do a back-to-back comparison.

I mean, I could tell the ski pulled a lot better on the mid and top. I also had some other small things going on. But, I don't think that it makes a HUGE DIFFERENCE on flat water at least for just cruising around.

For me, I wouldn't consider a mag much of a "power" upgrade, more or less an efficiency upgrade.

I don't tend to feel small changes much. A difference to me it doing a turbo swap, now thats something you can FEEL.

First time I started my ski in the water with the Solas I felt the difference right away at idle. I really think some guys are having pump cavitation/tuning issues. That pump has to be sealed perfectly. The prop should match your setup as well.

I installed mine with a mostly stock engine (b-pipe) and the pump is all stock. Stock prop and even the intake grate. Only thing that changed was the Solas stator and cone. So I really noticed the difference between the pumps.

Do the stubby cones really work on these pumps?

Looked at mine today and looked very stuffy in there

If makes a diff I'll make one at work tomorrow

What's your guys opinion...?

you're not wasting your time. i had the same issues when i installed my mag pump = lost low end pull, but I did notice a big difference in mid - high thrust. big difference in traction too. switched out to a stubby cone and the bottom end came back. you can also play with prop spacing.

so i decided to do the free mod first make my own stubby cone

here is a few pics
hope this works out prop is still gong to be ordered soon

start with a nice billet chunk

machine the o-ring/ grease chamber
utf-8BSU1HMDIxNjQtMjAxMjEwMjYtMDg1NC5qcGc.jpg

turn it around start on the angles

my stubby cone was 42mm long so final angle is 55deg in the front

basically you start at 30deg and work your way up to 55 this will give you a few steps but you get a file and polish those away then fine sandpaper until smooth finish

here is finished product before the bolts holes are machined

now with bolt holes machined

the rear

installed

with reduction nozzle on
