Yes what side of the motor it's on and how the motor is driven off of the starter , some are chain driven , some are gear driven, some have several gears.

Some of the motorcycle ones have smaller brushes and make less torque as well. They have neutral so power needs are less. There are also jet ski starters and bendix that spins and open reverse direction, ran across them before as well.
