Small amount of play in the midshaft

I've got the motor out of my '99 super jet and was looking over a few other things. If I grab the coupler that is sticking into the engine bay I can move it a slight amount. It spins good, free and smooth but I can 'wiggle' it just a slight amount. Is that a normal amount of play or should I look at replacing the bearings?

I have have this same "play" in mine. Looking to rebuild it. However, if this is normal I could save the time, effort, and downtime.
Any input is appreciated.

anyone ive ever seen has had about 1mm of play. I think its normal.
