Thanks so much to all that gave me your input. Chad's hooking me up with some used Cyclones for a screaming good deal! Thanks, Chad!

maybe this will help others looking at the same thing moving forward. I agree about the padding mashing down over time-if we are talking about the old grey hydro pad. the plush pad (was white- now black) while a lot heavier is way more dense and doesnt compress like the grey did. the grey is very comfortable but for the long run the plush is the way to go.

now with 9, 18 and 26 mm plush its pretty easy to tailor your holds no matter the size holds or feet.

sanding the grey down to shape it and blend it was a piece of cake with some 80 grit you wont find it that easy with the plush. more like a 36 grit will eventually get there lol.

I like the 9mm for protection of the ankle on the side of the hold. even just a 1 or 2 inch wide strip top to bottom will eliminate kickin in and banging that knuckle in your ankle on the side.

X2 on all of that info. The 26mm black stuff is the most dense I have seen from HT. I prefer the grey 25mm in tops of my holds but like Tom said its not great for the tray as it can squish down and over time become flatter / thinner and all of a sudden your holds are loose. So soft and squishy in tops where ther is not as much pressure and dense for bottom where your weight wil compress more is the best I have found. Having the 8mm soft grey for fine tuning is great as well. And the sanding on the black stuff SUCKS where as any of the grey is easily shapable withlight sanding.
