Super Jet SN SJ 701 Exhaust rattling off?!

I recently got a 95 SN SuperJet 701 and the Riva Red pipe installed keeps rattling itself loose. At first I just helicoiled the pipe-head mounting bolts and the pipe-manifold studs;vlocktite with nyloc nuts - still came loose after about an hour of riding. I just drilled/tapped everything to 3/8 and the pipe-head mounting bolts held but the three pipe-manifold still came loose! This is the last time I'm taking that pipe off so help me god so i've decided to ask for help lol. I'm concerned its the crank, out of true, shaking the engine but i dont notice any undue vibration when riding. One thing i just figured out though there is, in fact, supposed to be a gasket between the pipe and manifold. duh. anyway thats on its way from ebay ($11) but i still dont feel so great about it.

Thoughts??

thanks,
Alex

I went through the same battle. Ended up breaking a mount due to over tightening. I ended up shelving mine for a B Pipe, However, lots of people manage to get great power from their Red Pipes. I just was not one of them. Good luck.

I had to add some shims to make it sit flush against the cylinder. And used red locktite. I have not had issues with mine rattling loose yet, but heard it was sometimes an issue.

detonation can cause excess vibration and cause this
check mixture and look at the piston wash

Thanks,

I hadn't considered detonation/pre-ignition as the cause. Guess I figured i'd notice it somehow while riding since i was trying to detect any signs of crank issues...

I'll get some pics up tn but the piston definitely indicates a lean mixture - carbon deposits all over. Havent messed with the mixture screw yet... The first tank i put through was 100 octane leaded aviation fuel mixed a bit rich @ 40:1 with Yamaha PWC oil. I dont race, i carry extra plugs and i like being nice to my engine so I run rich... same with my 2smoker yz... here nor there.

Previous owner installed the goofy screw on style plug boots..which came loose first ride (dielectric/ziptye/e-tape n we're back on the water) .. MSD crimp set on its way along with the gasket - been meaning to check timing as well... I actually managed to find a Manifold-Cyl. Head gasket at a local yama dealer $15, go figure.

sounds like it wasn't re-jetted for the pipe
you want distinct piston wash with carbon only on the middle of the head
richen it up and save that motor
