SN Superjet Mods

I'm looking at picking up a '90 SN with a 61x 701 from a blaster in it. It has a Coffman's exhaust and lightened stock flywheel, but otherwise the motor is stock. It has a Pro Tech ride plate and Blowsion bars. According to the seller the prop is stock, seems amazing an aluminum prop would have lasted 28 years but who knows. If that's the case a SS prop is going to be the first thing I do when I get it.

This is very similar to a ski I owned back in the 90's. I had a '93 that I put a 701, factory B pipe, ADA head, flame arrestor, jet dynamics ride plate, UMI steering, Solas prop.

I always loved that ski, my only complaint was high speed cornering always felt like a fine line. Lean too far and the pump came unhooked, not far enough and it slid out. I started on Kawasaki 550/650/750 hulls and was used to being able to just throw it over into a turn, but I loved the stability, low end torque, and reliability of the SJ.

So one thing I'm thinking about on this one is adding tubbies, maybe the Pro Watercraft Racing ones. What I'm looking for is the ability to corner it more aggressively without worrying about it sliding out or the pump unhooking. Stability was never an issue with this hull for me at any speed, at least up to the upper 40's which is what mine did. Learning on a 550 the SJ and 750's were incredibly stable :)

Does this sound like a good mod for this ski? Are there any other handling mods that need to go along with the sponsons to get the most out of them?

Also if it has the stock prop, what would be a good pitch for a replacement SS prop for a 701? This is going to be a ski for fun that myself and my son will ride, not looking to race but occasionally riding in the surf. So reliability and fuel economy are important. I'd prefer not to have to run 93 octane if I can help it. Just a fun ski that handles well and is fun to ride.

Any thoughts?

Thanks!

The Worx 201 intake grate is one of my favorite mods on my SN. I use the skat 8/16 prop in mine which is sweet in my opinion. Both of these along with d-cut ride plate, but that’s mainly beneficial in the surf. Also I run the blowsion steering system which I really like as well.

I’ve read elsewhere on here that tubbies are great for turning, but are no good traveling in a straight line on glass. I have a 90’ sn b pipe 61x ada head and a 61x cylinder on its way to Jetworks with a 62t waiting for dual 44 black jacks.

I started with a 750 that was all done up and I prefer the way it took turns balanced vs my flat turning square. I have a 14/18 ss skat trak in really good shape that is in it and It’ll be for sale after I find out what the new motor will need.

Tubbies on a superjet are a requirement if you want to nail turns. Prowatercraft rideplate is also awesome, intake grate is up to you with how aggressive you want it to be.

Tubbies are great for laying it over railing turns. Most everything else they are not. My square doesn't slide out, it just flat turns and doesn't want to be leaned over.
