snapped off battery tray bolts.

I have a new problem. I have a new 2014 superjet that I bought with less than 3 hours on the clocks. I have now added about 10 hours to the ski. And have been doing upgrades here and there.

Yesterday I went to install a FBP. When I was removing the battery tray. The two bolts to the right of the ski(outside) snapped off flush with the inserts. The other two were about to as well. The inserts show corrosion. This shouldn't have happened. The ski only been in fresh water. For a side note, I pulled the battery tray out of my 94 FX-1 with out issue.

Any one have a quick fix for this?

I would recommend soaking the broken bolt area with a quality penetrating oil (Kroil, PB Blaster) for a few days of repeated applications, then drill with a left handed drill bit, and use an EZ out to back them out. Agreed that it shouldn't have happened, but you should have good luck with the above process.

If not drill holes around the insert and remove it, then epoxy a new insert in. It is not that hard to do.

Hey Chris,

So far it has been hard to do :)

I tried drilling the broken stainless bolt. But the drill bit would not bite into the stainless. Do you know if the inserts are stainless? If not. I would think it would be easier to drill out the insert. Can you get these as well as the OEM. stainless bolts?

Oem inserts are brass, but you can also use a small drill bit and drill in the plastic all around the insert and then break it loose. Have inserts and bolts.

Chris,

Yes! Please send me 4 inserts and four bolts. And what ever glue is needed to install them.

I got my FBP installed and carb jetted. But don't want to take it out in the water till the battery box is repaired. Can use send these to me. I can PayPal you what ever the cost is.

Thanks

Chris, or any one that has used the inserts that Chris stocks,

I got the two inserts drilled out. But don't understand how to mount these new style inserts that you sent me? Do I just fill the hole with the GFlex and then lay the insert on top. How do I protect the threat? Do I coat them with anything. Also you added a second nut. Do I set these next to the welded bolt or do I space it down the bolt a little ways.

Just want to do it right the first time.

Thanks!
