So what sources do you search for skis?

So as most you of you may know, I buy skis to part them out...

Where do you all search for your skis at?

I know the main ones: x-h20, pwctoday, and craigslist. But where else?

Recycler used to be good b/c it was a free listing, but now they charge $5 to post an ad, so now there really aren't any deals on there.

I haven't found any worth while deals since last October, and I search CL every other day, if not every.

If I got the time, I just drive around neighborhoods and look for skis that look like they havent been used in a long time. Then go up and talk to the peeps and see whats up and try to strike a deal if they want to get rid of them.

Other than that, not much more than what you listed, plus the local paper and maybe some boating websites.

Any ads posted on Craigslist in my area are few and far between and when they are, they are never good deals. Im not paying $600 for a 440. I did toss up a WTB though and going to check out an X2 this week. Also around here most skis are stored in garages or inside so you cant really see what people have. Though if I were to do that, best place would be doing it from the lake.

ebay

Sometimes people get in bidding wars and things sell for more than they are worth. Sometimes on no reserve auctions you can get great deals, especialy this time of year.

i did this last year after checking out a craigslist ski. i just drove around the south shore here close to the water.

I found a 98 roundnose laying in the weeds next to a TS. It was bone stock with a stuck pump, bad starter, and stuck carbs.

paid 325 for it with clean papers.

Maybe I should go for a drive again... it couldnt hurt.

My personal roundnose i bought locally, but it was advertised on fleabay.

By far, IMO the best way to get skis cheap is to canvass neighborhoods in lake/river communities and look for the yard ornaments. i have gotten skis for free this way (only 440's & 550's) You also find the occasional SJ but they are lots more rare.(and not free) You know the old saying about one man's trash!

How Do you deal with the tax aspect of selling used part's ?

we have a local publishing that comes out every thursday. its called the buy sell bulletin. its pretty neat, you can place free ads for individuals. from time to time you can get really lucky. we also have a swapper magazine.
