Custom/Hybrid Solas 144 Mag limitations and ?'s

I have a BOB G3 with a 701 bored to 760 modded out. I would assume a Solas 144 mag would be the right set up for that motor and a huge improvement over stock.... Currently have a 9/15 Hooker.

However I plan on going to a big motor in the soon future... At what point do you need to step up the something bigger then the 144?

Any one able to give me the lowdown on at what pint you need to step up bigger?

What impeller should be used in cunjuntion with the 144 solas mag in my current set up?

Lastly... Other then the solas mag and a new impeller are their any other items i need for the swap?

I have a 9/15 hooker in my 760 hurricane with 144 mag and it feels perfect. Flat water flips all day.

Guys are gonna tell you that a bigger pump is better for all bigger cc motors, but you can, just not with optimal results, run a 144 mag in motors up to 900ish realistically.

I'm running a 144mm Solas pump with one of my TPE +4mm 1021cc motors and I ended up needing a 17/22 C75 swirl to get the 144mm pump to work for me.

Glen at Skat-Trak said the highest pitch 144mm impeller he could make is a 18/26, but he couldn't recall having ever made one before.

I'm running a Maxxx 148mm pump with my second TPE +4mm 1021cc and the larger pump is much better suited to the motor.

As mentioned above, anything above 900cc will in most, if not all cases work better with a larger pump.

Just looked in my pump and saw the gap between my hooker and the small diam inner pump. Sweet all I need is the Solas 144 and can run my impeller

You can use a large hub 144mm impeller in any OEM 144mm pump without any issue. The 08 and newer Yamaha superjets come stock with a large hub stainless steel swirl impeller in the standard 144mm OEM pump housing.

Although I'm at 5,000' elevation I'm running a hooker 14/19 in my solas mag behind a TPE 964. I'm very happy with it. No slipping and plenty of hit. Running standard solas cone now, but going to try the stubby very soon and see if it stays hooked up.
