Solas 148 SS MAG pump

I've sold a few of these but didn't get a chance to run a back to back comparison until recent.

There is a very noticeable increases over a well set up 144mm. The hook up in white water conditions is amazing. I'm not much of an aerial guy but it added easily a foot of height to my flat water nose stabs (yea some people still do these sad I know).

Now these pumps are non set back full stainless wear ring and stator. That being said for flat water flips I'm sure any of the set back 148mm pumps available would out perform the solas. The set back pumps keep more water infront of the prop there for you continue to get thrust slightly after the intake leaves the water in a flip attempt. That being said. For a surf rider I happen to believe the solas 148 is the very best pump you could ask for.

The ski I used for back to back comparisons had a 800 cc +4mm stroker with 46mm sbns and stock ignition. It needed a 9/15 d75 with 84mm reduction nozzle. It was an aftermarket hull but very heavy at 330lbs.

As far as the bearing problems the 144 solas stator sections had I believe a lot of the problems where caused by improper installation. The SS does not give like the cast aluminum stock stator section. Therefore if you press or hit the bearing into the housing incorrectly you will damage the bearing. The proper way to install is with two parallels, a hydraulic press and a tool that contacts only the outer race of the bearings.
There have been a few 144 pumps that came through with the interference between the housing and bearing too tight. This needs to be measured with a bore guage not a caliber. So I'd suggest choosing an installer that can measure the clearance properly and is familiar with these SS pumps.

Ready to install solas 148 mag

Rtr 144 pump that was being replaced. Added 7 lbs to the ski. Not great but not terrible. Worth the added hook up for the money

Pricing can vary depending on how much of the pump you want and if you'd like it assembledid or not. PM or call me for pricing I will make this pump a great bargain for those interested.

Just reading about this, I assembled my 148 yesterday to go in my xfs with a 771, have you played around with pump cones yet? I'm going to be running a 6/17 prop and 85mm nozzle starting with the stock pump cone

On the solas mag you can machine the cone down a little ways. I got my solas 148 in the other day, still waiting on my 6/15 though.

Can Def take some off the tail cone it comes with or impros makes a stubby cone to fit these. I switched to the impros stubby on a ski that was pretty badly over propped. It was noticeable and made it ok to ride but still ended up pitching the prop down to maximize output.

What motor are you running? I lost a considerable amount of power from my oem 144 behind a 771. I'll try and keep updated as I tune it. I made a 1mm spacer to keep the prop from hitting the stator hub but I am going to remove the spacer and machine the stator to work so I can try that. It isn't quite overturning the prop but at low speed it doesn't hook up well by any means

Yeah that's pretty close to mine. Full spec 46s flat top r&d 771 bpipe msd etc I'd like to hear how your 148 does. Only change I'm running is a 85mm nozzle. I've got some tuning to do for sure though

Is yours in superjet hull? From my experience hull plays a big part on which impeller is needed also. Ill keep you updated. Hopefully have the new impeller in next week.

@Nsmith212 my 6/15 skat cutback 5mm ended up being perfect for my ski. Pulls so much harder everywhere. I am beyond happy. Night and day difference from stock 144 to 148.

Yeah I was running a skat 10/16 and stock pump and it made a lot more power. Thi should work good once it's tuned

Picked up a 148 pump with shaft and RRP trim cheap a few weeks ago so ive thrown it in my Evo for now until my SV-1 is built. I rode some nice surf last weekend and am impressed with the added hook up over the 144 solas. I also have noticed a little more power especially when my ski was climbing a wave during a flip.

I got a 13/19 solas with the pump and it's pretty nice, seem to have more bottom end power. I noticed more with hook up especially when i agressively surf ride. My motor is 61x +5mm crank (810cc) with ported B pipe.

Anyone have suggestions or results of the Solas impellers on the Solas148 SS Mags? 12/18 or 13/19 and if the Skat options are possibly just better?
