Solas MAG Bent Vanes

Hi all,

I just bought an Aquabot. I've got a JetManiac 735 in there with MSD enhancer, B pipe, and 180psi domes.

I noticed that 8 of the 12 vanes are pretty wacked. You can see one pretty clearly in this pic. Some are bent in the opposite direction. Will this cause significant loss in thust?

My motor feels/sounds like it hits rev limiter when I pin it from low RPM, but I accelerate worse than my stock superjet! Maybe I am over/under propped? I do need to pull this pump apart and see what the prop is anyway. Thanks!

Mostly you need another pump. It appears that the vanes suffer from rock indigestion! It cannot possibly work well- not even medium well...

Disassemble and bust out the Crescent wrench to try and straighten the vanes as best you can. Bolt the stator section to the tool bench so it’s solid and make small bumps with the wrench so it seems like your hardly doing anything (obviously you need to flex it hard enough to make small bends each time but don’t just try and reef it all in one pull). Stainless is hard and brittle and it may tear if you try to get it all in one pull. Good thing is the Solas parts are cheap and JetManiac probably has a replacement if it gets trashed. But yes, your pump will perform like crap with a torn up stator section and if your stator looks like that the leading and trailing of the impeller should be inspected. If those are bent and full of burrs that’s an even bigger cause of cavitation.

Thank you guys! I know impros does pump repairs starting at $95 (there is alot of damage here so maybe would cost $150-$200)... But first I am going to attempt to repair myself, like iQRTurbo said. If I really do damage, and have to buy new, Impros also sells these for $433. A new impeller or impeller repair may also be needed.

That's considered a lot of damage? I had a similar amount of damage to my solas pump. The trailing edge of my prop got pretty bent too.
I straightened the vanes out the best I could, bent trailing edge back, ski hooked up perfectly. You might not have to spend a ton of money to have something work great again.

So I took the pump apart this weekend... wow... look at the leading edge of these blades!! So I straightened everything out as best as I could, which is better, but still not good. But I put her in the water and damn did that make a difference. Much better. Although now the motor is really struggling. Hopefully just a rich condition that I can tune out.

I still need to take the impeller off and see what it is. I will be buying a new impeller for sure either way. Thing is shot.

The prop came off, and I put a new 9/15 hooker in. Did not make much of a difference, maybe a slightly better hookup. The motor is acting funky ( See "Jetmaniac 735 carb question). Over all, I would say my pump is hooking up near perfect. My next question is, what will a stubby cone do for me? The cone that's in there is freakin huge.

Hi all. I noticed some pits/dings in the very tip of the leading edge of my bran new impeller (they are on all 3 edges). I am careful not to run the ski in shallow water, so I don't see it being rock damage. I have the same prop on my superjet, which I am much less careful with, does not have these pits/dings AND I have been riding on that impeller for two full seasons...

Could those pits on the leading edge be from cavitation!?

By the looks of your wear ring you have been making big rocks into little rocks. Is the back of the blades and leading edge of your stator vanes beat up too? If the debris made it in far enough it will have likely smeared around the face of the stator too

Yes the previous comments will show you that the stator and previous impeller was indeed mangled... this is a new impeller. Old wear ring.
