There are some pretty good step by step instrcutions out there. I had no fiberglass experience either and was able to put footholds in very easily. Just make sure to buy the right holds and the right materials for the job, take you time and read the instructions. I did mine with minimal tools. The only thing I had to a buy was a dremmel to gut the gunwhales, but every one needs a dremmel anyway...

As far as doing it outside... I wish I would have done mine outside with all the fiberglass goinging everywhere, sanding and fumes... its not a bad idea to do it outdoors.

whats the difference between a pre 96 sj pipe and a post 96 pipe???

The old bpipes measure 42 mm at the manifold to headpipe opening. Newer ones are at 46 I think. Most bored them up to 48 or slightly larger. I had a local motorcycle shop do mine. Saved me lots and wamiltons wants 150 plus ship, but they do other mods to the stock bpipe aswell for that price.

Whatever you can find where the screws all turn freely and go from there.

Find someone close by (board member) to help you with footholds. Or just nut up and do it yourself. I made a mess my first fiberglass job but each time I get better and better. It really was not hard given the wealth of knowledge posted here in step by step stylee on what to do and who to but from.
We do 99%of our work outside and fiberglass work never happens in a confined area just too messy. Easy to clean up with respiration and a leaf blower when in the yard

i have all the tools u could possibly need considering my dads owns a boat repair buisness along with a racecar shop so thats not the problem, but another reason id rather wait on holds is who wants to go cutting into there ski just when its getting to be riding season? lol

hmmm no answers on the difference between a pre 96 pipe to a post 96 pipe???

Someone answered two minutes before you lol.

And better sooner than later for holds I think. Holds are cheap, so you will be able to upgrade your engine later on in the season, where as you said, putting holds in will cut your ride time....but less time if you do it now (so then later in season you have pipe and holds to play with).

And I didn't have any issues with my 650sx pipe when I ordered it from FP. Just called them up once and it was done. Arrived a few days later.

im going to break away from the norm and say find a set of 62t cases and oem 38mm carbs, you could probably invest about 450 bucks including gaskets, and have a great foundation for a big bore/aftermarket cylinder.

i plan on doing that down the road but as off right now im just trying to take care of all the bolt ons and really just trying to avoid pulling a running motor( well kinda if uve seen my other post u will know lol) apart untill i have to or until winter rolls back around

hmm kinda need to know if it matters if i buy a pre 96 pipe or post or not cause i would like to order either tonight or tomorrow

Post 96. or the mod pipe. All 3 use the same bolt battern. I think the only difference between pre and post is the post comes with the elbow from chamber to WB. I could be wrong about that.

I would go with the mod pipe, but thats subject to opinion.

Do the holds now if your dad repairs boats he should be able to glass your holds in a couple of hours and theyre cheap! Then youll just need to learn to turf =) Also videos on how to do that...

I think the accepted theory is that a limited has slightly better bottom while the mod raises rpm a tad. A lot of posts indicate the performance difference is negligible, and the mod pipe is shorter and easier to install. I believe the mod is preferred for ported motors as well.

Cant go wrong either way.

Like others said, install some footholds, you can have it all done in a weekend if you giver' sh*t. I really wish i did this last year, but like you said earlier, i didn't want any down time since i bought it during the summer. I regret that decision, i was limited to what i wanted to do last year. I can't wait to use the footholds this year. A pipe is a great thing to have also, i should be installing mine on the weekend. But I think you should go with the footholds before pipe, imo, I think all things to do with handling should be done first before power.
