Other solas ss mag pump. What's it take to make them last? ?

I have yet to run one of the solas stainless mag stator sections. I here customers tell me stories of both extremes. Love it and no problems, and waste of money it failed in minutes. I know there are a few cluttered threads already. Was hoping to make this the cliff notes version of what the actual bearing problems are and what it takes to make them last.

I know there are possibly 100s with failure stories. Don't need all those in this thread more looking for failure explication and solution. Thanks in advance!

What about buying it from jm already set up and assembled? I've heard good things about that

Did he recently start selling them assembled? I PM'ed JM about a month back and he said he wouldn't sell one assembled until they figured out a fix..

Didn't realize Watcon/John was selling assembled units. Looks like I will be giving him some more business soon.

I have built a few for customers, when they send in their drive shafts. I can supply a new OE or aftermarket shaft for people who want, and send off a complete assembly.

I take EVERY jet pump, chuck it into the lathe, and open up the bearing area to reduce "press" and make sure the inner hub is straight and true. It then goes into inventory to be sold. So far so good for use here.......

I had a feeling the interference fit between the bearing and housing would come up in this discussion before it was over. Is solas owning up to improper clearance and doing anything about, at least, the new ones being made?

Not as of last October at world finals. They are at least aware of the issue now though.

Everyone i know has had great success with there solas mag, but from the sounds of it, Solas needs to step up there quality control a little.

X2 what Watcon said, Im not sure if another seller is checking for this issue before selling the part?

John,

I already have a solas mag, but need bearings and seals and the spacer ring. If I buy those from you, can you work up an order for me, I'll send you my existing pump, you can check for clearance, etc. You don't need to install the bearings as I haven't gotten my driveshaft yet. If interested, please pm me a price.

Thanks in advance,
Scottie

Scottie, I have people sending me pumps quite often, and would be happy to machine yours. I charge 45.00 to turn a pump on the lathe.

I do stock the spacer rings 40.00, bearing / seal kits also 40.00, I have both in stock.

Sorry I do not do PM's here. You can email watcon@watcon.com or call the shop 608-743-1305 and I can start a work order for you, for when you send your pump in.
