I think it depends on your skills, your ride, surf conditions, water and air temps, boat traffic, time of day, etc., etc.
The buddy system is my personal rule. Even if I go snorkeling at a pretty laguna.

well I broke a battery cable riding solo and had to swim her in.....

not a bad swim at all- Kinda good for me if you ask me.

waves have been tame and thin so it really is nothing-

feel the love...

are we really that bad???? :haha:

i ride alone quite a bit. it's nice in the sense that i dont have someone constantly stealing the wave i've been following setting up for a re-entry.

my situation is that (in theory) i have a lifeguard who is watching at the zone but they're gone half the time. i've also ridden ponce and matanzas by myself quite a bit which isnt probably the smartest thing but again it's nice to have the place to yourself.

since i dont backflip or barrel roll i guess i'm maybe less likely to ko myself. i figure if i go out while jetskiing at least i died happy.

alot of times if the crowd is going to one beach, i head the other way.

Hey Swanny, I'll be doing quite a bit of riding by myself in Lincoln City 7/7-7/9.
Might be a wrong board for this post. Tried the match.com yet?

She'll be at the beach house watching me.
I am riding right there, whitewash only, no second break or anything crazy like that.

I'll be in Gearhart Saturday and Sunday playing some golf with my college buddies. Zach was going to meet me Sunday morning for an early a.m. ride. I'm still gonna ride....

I asked you not to ride alone just the other day. You gave me the impression you would not. Even if someone is on shore, the odds of them getting to you are probably not very good. You can still get seriously injured just in baby surf (in a lake for that matter). It's not that hard to knock yourself out with a minor slip up. You should reconsider. I hope you find someone to ride with in the near future.

The story of Tom (Han Solo) is true. The most swell guy who believes the couch is the place you sit and die, computers are a waste of time and doesn't get near em, and that the world is ending soon but ride everyday for the hell of it.
An awesome old dude I wish was my grandpa.

Every day tom down here in Oceanside has not missed a day in two and a half years...literally not missed a day He is in the water just before sunrise every day. Even when we are getting in the water at like 7:30 he is already done. I've found him swimming his ski the mile plus back to the harbor alone. That guy really needs some kind of award.

I don't think it is a good idea to ride alone...Mr. Matt Smith went to the hospital today after having the ski land on him from about 15 feet out. Had he been alone, it would have been a much more serious situation for him.

I would never reccomend that anyone ride alone in the surf. But I don't care if you do, so long as you are fully aware of the risks you are taking. And you are competent rider like Swanny.

He sounds like a cool guy... what ski is he riding?

Tom or "Ride every day Tom" as we all call him rides a Kawasaki 750sxi pro, and yes he does ride every single day. Nobody rides at Oceanside more than Tom. We were trying to guesstimate his monthly gas bill and it was working out to be more than my mortgage! He's kind of a unique character, he rides really early (5am-ish?) and only likes to ride solo. If you show up early to ride with him, he'll moto way down the beach until he's alone again.

one day john (227) and i went out at oceanside SUPER early..it was too dark for both of us to even ride properly until the last 20min of our session and that guy was on his way in when we left!!!...
