Solved- Stock Superjet Bogging

Hoping I can get some opinions on what to look for to remedy a bogging issue on a 2013 bone stock Superjet, no mods what so ever.

Symptoms:
Hard start when cold: choke helps sometimes, other times need to pour a bottle cap of fuel into carbs to start
Once started idle is more or less OK until warm
As soon as any throttle is applied engine falls flat and dies. Even the slightest throttle input causes an immediate bog. Hard hit on the throttle from idle produces same result, engine falls flat and dies.

Steps taken:
Cleaned and rebuilt carbs. Found diaphragms on both carbs stuck to the cover plate (had never seen that before). N/S looked fine, weren't stuck. Small filter on the pumps had some contamination but very little. Tamper caps are still on so no changes to needles

Checked one way valve on tank, it works and tank holds pressure

Cleared out return line, no obstruction, steady stream from front carb when tank is pressurized

Cleaned out fuel filter and inspected for water, no water present in filter

Emptied fuel tank, found small amount of water in bottom of tank, cleaned out the tank and filled with fresh fuel/oil

Changed to new set of spark plugs

After doing all the above, the ski started right up on the trailer and idled normally, throttle response was normal, thought problem was solved. BUT next morning, hard start again and same bogging symptoms as before. So back to square one.

Any suggestions on what I should check for next.

Definitely sounds like a fuel issue. Did you clean the jets thoroughly? I mean spray the crap out of them to make sure they are clean. I had the exact same issue you are talking about and cleaning the jets and upping the size fixed the problem. The coil could cause similar symptoms, but it would be consistent and get worse as you warm the ski up and put load on it (in the water). Take a close look at your fuel pump line as well.

drill out the tamper caps and check the needles. Also, try lowering the pop off pressure a little bit. I had a similar issue and it was lacking fuel due to very high pop off pressure and the needles were a touch to lean.

I know you said you did the carbs, but if you didn't do it right, then you didn't do the carbs...

Only use genuine mikuni parts. I put brand new parts in from sbt and my fuel pumps leaked air.

Remove all parts. If you have caps on your screw covers, then you need to remove them, clean the adjustment needles. Turn them in and count the turns before you remove them.

Make sure your jets and needles are clean. I like to soak them in a product "Chemdip".

Check your popoff. Needles and seats "that look good" probably don't look good.

Clean all passage ways in the carb. Make sure you open the fuel pump side, clean it and don't forget the fuel filter in there.

IMO. Its your Low Speed circuit. Clean carbs again. Remove tamper caps AND needles this time. Compressed air is mandatory for getting carbs clean. Blow thru all carb holes. Remember your hi and low needle settings.

Problem solved...for now

There was a small loose obstruction in the pilot jet on the rear carb. Cleaned it out and reassembled. Ski ran properly afterwards.

Thanx all for the help.

@Speleopower, @Vumad, @mybad I agree fully about the needles and that proper carb cleaning requires disassembly, but this is a buddy's ski and he wants it to stay as stock as possible, so no drilling out the tamper caps at this time. I'm sure the modding bug will get him eventually though lol.

Drilling out the tamper caps is not really a modification. Its an EPA thing.

My dealer changed my 2007 yfz pilot jet when I had it in for service. The reason is that the quad is tuned lean from the factory to help pass emissions.

The caps are not suppose to be there. The screws are suppose to be removable and adjustable. The low speed screw adjust your idle circuit. If you ski starts idling poorly, it's because that circuit is dirty, and without the caps, you can remove the screw to clean the circuit.
