Hey All,
New to the forum here and pretty fresh to the standup world. Been wanting a standup for a long time now and finally got to ride one for a week last summer... hooked. absolutely hooked. Been riding motocross since a young age and always knew I would be decent on a ski and would really enjoy it. First few days of riding and was already doing nose stabs, ollies, drifts and massive submarines - super fun. (prolly need to learn some lingo there lol)
I've got my eyes on an '06 SJ for hopefully $3700 with UMI bars, prop, and worx dominator ride plate. Motor is stock and compression was 150psi each. Ski looks a little beat up cosmetically - fiberglass looks a bit dinged up and chipped. Not sure how easy that stuff is to fix and only a close look will tell me more about stress cracks and what not. Main question for you guys is some advice on buying ones first SJ. Is there any reason not to buy a SN? any major differences between '96-'08 vs +'08? I've read that early SN's are really sought after, but I'm not sure why... bulletproof? I know a 701 SN is a real find.. but any differences in handling between SN/RN?
I've spent a few days now with my eyes peeled on this forum - reading a lot and trying to learn the ropes of SJ's. What are major things to physically look at when examining a used ski? I'm plenty handy and enjoy tinkering with motors and learning more about how to work on engines carbs etc... I just finished my M.Sc. in aerospace engineering so I hope thats worth something haha! Main stuff I'm interested in doing is freeride/freestyle riding, maybe one day get into surf but I'll be living in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho as of tomorrow, not much surf there
Seems like a great community here and really looking forward to finding my first SJ and learning from all of you!
Cheers!
