on hold now due to weather... not a cloud in the sky over the whole state except a patch right off KSC coast.

Figures!

Just Curious but how does a cloud effect the launch ? Commercial airpliners are not effected by clouds on takeoff !

Lightning and rain are some of the problems. They can't land anywhere like an airplane if they get struck, and the TPS is very sensitive to impact. Have you ever been on a ski or motorcycle in the rain? Imagine that but many many times faster.

Yeah, it's pissing like a hurricane on the shuttle right now......that's not a good thing for launching tonight. I'm going home, we'll try again tomorrow night probably. Check nasa.gov for updates as well as the other sites mentioned above.

It was pretty awesome how the weather worked out last night. It was cyrstal clear in every direction, but there was this one little storm cell right off the coast that wouldn't leave :smashfreakB: Tonight could end up the same, but I'll be here waiting......I mean working anyway :sneaky:

Years ago the shuttle re-entered over Texas at about 3 am. I could see it from the DFW area, just slightly to the south.

That was about the coolest thing I have ever seen in the sky. It was like a slow moving comet.

It was traveling west to east so I assume they were landing in FL?

I still want to see a launch. Only 7 launches left?

Didn't something like this happen the last time a launch was delayed? Offload the fuel, and fix the valve. Refuel and light the fuse ( while crossing fingers ).

This is #7, six more to go. It is one of the coolest things you'll ever see!

Not without some drugs :naughty: But seriously, no. Come closer...

Spaceflightnow.com is good, and Floridatoday.com too in the Flame Trench section. It usually heads east of the Atlantic.

Mechanical engineer, this place is full of awesomeness :djsmilie:

For Waterhawk.
