Space Shuttle launch tonight

No he will not!
Once again, it looks like we're going tonight. Trajectory is NE from here so it should be visible to much of the east coast of the US tonight. Launch time is 11:59 ET. Now get out to your local beaches and see this crew off to space :beerchug:

Let me see if I can explain this, while making it sound as cool as it really is:

Night launches with a light haze cloud cover are awesome because:

1) As the shuttle gets close to the clouds it lights up the sky with light reflecting back down. I think you can only see this if you're very close to the pad like where we get to watch from, other people outside the gates never seem to notice as much.

2) As it passes through the clouds it seems to punch a hole in them. Just after it goes through, you can clearly see the clouds roll back (like water rings when you drop a rock in) and it leaves a large hole. The clouds also appear to vibrate as it moves on, just like my shirt does every time.

3) If it's clear enough, you can see it all the way till Main Engine Cut-Off which is usually about 8 minutes down range. Once they reach MECO, they're in space :woot:

And just to say it again, if you have a chance to see one of the 6 launches left you should do it. It is by far one of the coolest things you'll ever see :Banane25: I love this stuff though so I may be a little bit biased :naughty:

It sucks, lived in Daytona/Palm Coast my whole life & seen a lot of them go up!

Yeah, this administration appears to be more true to their first notion on the space program, which was to cut our budget to fund math and science education...........because we don't have anything to do with that stuff :buttkick: But he came here and told us how he was going to make it all better so people voted for him. It seems that his initial gut feeling was more accurate than his 'coached' feeling that came later.

So this is what it looked like.

The first is a good shot right after it started moving. The second is cool because you can see vapor clouds forming at the tops of the SRBs, this should have been about the time it was breaking the sound barrier. The last one is pretty washed out but it gives you an idea of just how bright this joker is when it's close to the ground.......I could see for a few minutes
