Splitting the cylinder and the head from one another

Gents, i come to you a defeated man!!! I cannot split anything on this x2 650 engine that has been sitting for 10+ years... ive tried the rope trick (i actually just put a hole in my hand, broke my coupler, and bent a pretty sturdy piece of angle iron about 20 mins ago), ive sprayed it down religiously for the last 4 days to see if it would loosen up, i used the starter before i took it off, ive heated it to the point i was worried of overheating it, ive hung it up and beat on it for the past 3 days... and obviously the stupid pry spots dont work either...

What are my options here? Is the only thing left to do is soak it in diesel or something for a week? It was a saltwater engine, so i know it is *ucked up!

I found a thread where a guy used his hydraulic press and some angle iron fastened to the head studs to pop it off. I haven't tried that yet, but has anyone done that? If so, did you just pry against the bed plate?

I was thinking about just taking it to a shop, but im not sure they could do anything that i havent tried yet.

Any thoughts or suggestions would be great. Thanks!

KAW engines suck with the studs, I have beat engines to crap trying to pry them apart.....

If heat does not do the trick to be honest a short block is 200-300.....use the old one as Anker, if it doesn't come apart after beating it
it most likely wont be salvageable.....

It might sound stupid, and I have not seen it done before either so to me it kinda sounds stupid too...but I have heard that iodine will release aluminum from dissimilar metals. I don't know how much truth is in that statement but I remember as a kid hearing an old tech saying that they would fill a cylinder that had aluminum embedded in the walls with iodine and it would lift the aluminum out after a day or two of soaking. I wonder if it would work with releasing the cylinders from the studs. It might seep in there and do some good...maybe? lol

Hot Products sell a Kawasaki Head Puller. It retails for around $85. A Google search should turn up several images including some for sale on EBay.

I made two of my own by getting a short length of solid steel bar and drilling a hole in centre of each.
I had two bolts rethreaded to the spark plug pitch that go through the centre holes to apply upward force on the head. You screw some nuts down on the studs until they are a millimetre or two from contacting the head. You place the steel bars across the spark plug holes and rest them on top of the nuts. Screw your bolts in until they begin tighten up and start to force the head up off of the block. I then tap around the edge of the head with a mallet. As the head is under tension it will slowly come away from the head. Repeat the process (tension bolts, hammer around head) over and over in small increments until the head separates from the block.

Hope this is clear enough. If I have my version handy I'll post some images tonight (Australian time). Once you have the device in hand the removal process should become obvious.

Is the cylinder off the motor?
No, the head and cylinder are both still on the crankcase and the pistons and crank are still in... i was able to split the crankcase, but i put it back together so i could reattach the bed plate for more leverage last night

I had a Yami 701 die in Daytona 1 year....then brought home to a blizzard in Ohio and it sat. The rings rusted to the cylinders. I let it soak for week.....freed them with a mallet and wood! Ran it for at least 30 more gallons until it just froze while casually riding one day! YAMAHA!!

Kroil.. the best sauce I've ever used

Thanks X2Kid. Yeah i fab'ed 2 up yesterday with angle iron and tightened them the best i could. Then applied heat and penetrating spray, then beat on it for a while. I think one side is starting to budge, but i left it under tension over night and M going to see if i can get it later on today... if i cant split it today ill probably just buy a new engine. It sucks because it isnt locked up and has a nice PJS head on it that id like to reuse... we shall see.
