Well second ride out (sponsons were installed by previous owner) and something didn't agree.

Is this a common thing? I plan to glass it back and make sure it never comes off. The funny thing is when it came off it wasn't noticed just happen to be coming back by and wondered what that was floating in the water.

Mine have stayed on fine with 3M 5200, the one that I saw fall off was put on with an adhesive that dries hard. Don't feel too bad, that one didn't have any foam and sunk to the bottom of the lake. I plan on re-doing with fiberglass.

by looking at the adhesive marks left from the previous installation, it doesn't look like they used enough adhesive.

Use bostik 940 FS and keep the screws in.

A couple of us have a theory that the bostik never truly hardens and kinda lets the sponson give a little upon impacts. I have personally never worked with 5200, but doesn't it dry rock hard?

5200 does not dry rock hard its like super silicone.
only way i would install something like that is with a layer of fiberglass around the edges. make it permanent.

ok, well throw that theory out the window, but it still doesnt look like they used enough adhesive...

I have my tubbies only glued on with the screws left in and have never lost it... I'm not the most aggressive rider out there but have had my tubbies on for 2 years now. I don't personally believe that glassing the edges is necessary.

Necessary? No. Better looking? Yes. Stronger? Yes.

5200 fast cure is the way to go. a day or 2 too dry but it is permanent chit. don't use if you ever plan on pulling it off. I think it would work good. never done tubbies yet though
