SquareNose Freestyle Project

I just bought a 1990 Yamaha Superjet Hull, Hood, Handpole, and misc. 650 parts. I plan on building up a 701 for it. I plan on having this build done around april or may. As of now I have removed the turf, footholds, and exhaust; and in the process of defoaming the hull. When that is done I will install a one way valve with a 24/7 scupper. And reinfoce the bondline. Any suggestions to what else I should do while all the foam is out?

If you plan on barrel rolling you can reinforce the inner rear side wall that you will be landing on. Thats easy to do with foot hold cut and foam out of there. Make it wrap around the bottom a bit too..

I now have some more time to work on the project so I decided to start on the handpole while money is tight. I have been doing some reading on shortening the squarenose poles and have decided to do it. I am trying to save money where I can, so a aluminum pole it out of the question for now at least. I plan on taking it down 3 or 4 inches. The only problem is the hood. The pole is too wide to fit the narrow hood. So I heard of people cutting the hood and was wanting to see some pics of how it was done. I marked the pole where I think I should cut, but wanted to post a pic before I did just incase I am about to make a big mistake.

yup thats the spot right there..heres how i did mine..sorry no pictures.

i marked the pole just like that the wrapped some masking tape around it to make a definate clear line to cut...before i cut it i took some 18 gauge sheet metal and cut about a 5inch stip out just long enough to wrap around the pole. then with my hands and a body hammer i shaped the metal to fit around the pole.slid it down and made the cut. then i ground down each half the pole up about 4 inches or so..i also took this time to remove just enough foam inside the pole so the tube inside could move over a little bit so the 2 halfs line up again.. i used some shims in there to hold it in place along with a little 5200..then i laid down a nice zigzag bead of 5200 and centered up my sheet metal collar. i then drilled two rows of holes through the collar and pole and started inserting rivets as i went..then laid 5200 on the other side and repeated the process...let cure for awhile then i wrapped the pole with 3 layers of glass..i never did sand it down or make it look pretty but it held and was strong as hell..hope this helps you out bro:brap:

as for the hood i just cut the corners off and remade them real quick..this would be an exellent time to do a sluty hood mod

So did you have the metal collar outside of the pole? I am gonna try to find a way to have it look like it wasn't cut by having the metal on the inside of the pole...And then I may wrap the whole thing with carbon fiber for added strength and looks.
