Squarenose handpole shortening

I skill have to completly fix up the hood, so thats not a problem. I want to save money where possible, or else i'd go out and buy a brand new umi pole. I am gonna cut the pole to -3 or -4 i'm just wondering if anyone had some step by step pics or just a final product pic.

I should have taken some pics of mine too.

I cut out a section in the middle and then added a piece of metal for support the glassed around the cut. Worked great.
You will also need to cut the hood for the pole to fit. I found this to be the hardest part.....but that was the first time I ever messed with glass.

I will not do it again though....A RN pole is less work and I think it looks better.

You can see the pole is about 4 inches shorter than stock.
It broke at the bottom and the center part does not even have a crack...It as held up fine.

I'm guessing I will shorten the square pole...Not to big on the way the round poles has the extra room when on the squarenose hood. I may end up wrapping the whole thing in carbon fiber for some added strength.

Does anyone know how exactly to make the epoxy shine well, after applied to a carbon fiber mat?

It was a piece of sheet metal bent to the shape of the pole, then I slid it into one half of the pole and used pop rivets to hold it in place....then slid the other half on and pop riveted it on.
then glass.....over lapping about 4 in either side of the seem. The metal went about 4 in into each side of the pole(8in total length).
I may have used 5200 on the inside just for some more strength.

Also the tube that runs down the pole will not match just right after you put it back together...I didn't think about this until I had it back together.
It will still work but it is a pain in the ass to get everything through the pole.
You should be able to notch the tube(on each half) and it should work better than mine did.

I cut mine in the middle and spliced it together with one layer of glass on top and two layers on the bottom and sides. You will hit the hood if you go much over 1.5 inches. The pvc tube will also have to be removed and shortened. I replaced mine with a thinner wall tube the same size, make sure its either sealed tight or has a good drain.

I did mine(the pole) the same way...just I put the metal on the inside.....and spent a little more time making it look good(well maybe not good but better)

The hood is the hard part if you want it to look good.
