Super Jet squarenose- lowered hood, nose job, widened tray, 701 swap

Well i came across a decent deal on a squarenose towards the end of my first season of riding. I started with a kawai 650sx and it was a blast to learn on but then i got bit by the super jet bug! The difference in handling between the two skis, and the 750's i've ridden, was night and day. Right now my ski has the 650 with a full factory exhaust, ride plate, prop, scoop grate. the power is very similar to that of a stockish 701 so it will stay until next winter probably. My buddy made me a set of footholds so that is where my project started.

figured since i have to foam and shape the rails and tray, i may as well shape them how i want

i got the shape i wanted... wanted the rails to flow into and match the lines of the hood. overall i'm really happy with how it turned out. so this winter and spring i have a lot of work ahead of me: lower the hood, refoam and shape the tray and gunwhales, install the footholds, reshape the nose a bit, install a roundnose pole, paint, and turf. i wanted to swap a 701 into it but my motor runs awesome and i want to finish everything else so i can ride it this summer. i know everyone is going to say to ditch the 650 and drop in a 701 but that will be a project for next winter. the build will be slow until after christmas when i can spend the money on supplies rather than gifts, so bear with me!

have fun! the worst part of the build (defoaming) is done. i like the new gunwale shape. it´s unobtrusive and follows the lines of the SN hull (not as most builds, where the gunwale looks SXR-ish, because of people making it "too" round). it will look perfekt with the lowered hood. keep on the good work.

it was definitely a pretty clean ski when i got it, i am real happy with it. i'm not sure when, if ever, i would have cut up this ski to customize it to my liking so i'm not upset with the foam being water-logged by any means. just figured that since i had to replace all the foam and redo the tray and gunwhales any way, i may as well take it a step further and lower the hood and change up a few other things including the nose. i've never done any fiberglass work nor have i had much experience working on engines so this project will teach me a lot for sure. my buddy luke (ltokarz) has helped me out a ton with answering my many questions so far. the engine came out real easy and i'm having fun with everything so far so i have no complaints... well removing the wet foam wasn't exactly my idea of a good time haha.

well its been a while since i've gotten any work done on the ski. since my last posts i've lowered my exhaust so i can widen the tray, i chopped up my hood so i can lower it, and i also have a ported 701 that should be in my hands real soon. the next updates shouldn't take too long as i am finally motivated to get back to working on it so i can ride within the next couple months!

might i add, i don't care if i never have to remove a stock hood liner again. a hammer, chisel, and 2 hours of my time... what a pain in the balls!

I'm not concerned about the dust lol. I feel like most of the tedious work is done now that the defoaming process and hood liner removal are done. I know the foam shaping and fiberglass work is a pain but I am looking forward to that stuff because the progress will show more. Hope.fully I'll be ready for paint soon enough because this warm weather is a real tease! I can't wait to ride! I should be ready for reinforcement by the weekend with more pics to follow

Well she is just going to have to deal that now isn't she! Haha too bad I'm wasting a perfectly good jet ski work day in my work truck. Gotta pay for the supplies somehow though

well i finally was able to get some more work done yesterday. i made my final cuts on the hood and sanded it all down. i also got a chance to pour some foam into the hood as well, which i was pretty excited about. today ill be doing some shaping on the foam and hopefully at least roughly get the shape I'm looking for.chopped done.jpgfoam prep 1.jpgfoam prep 2.jpgfoamed 1.jpgfoamed 2.jpg
