Freestyle Ss 865 vs dasa 846

Im wondering what the real difference is besides displacement? Im looking at the xmetal 865 and the DASA 846. Both are stock stroke, billet top end, 7 port, and powervalve. Im not trying to start a war here, but if you can speak from experience about either one, lets have it. Im trying to do my research before I buy.

I can't give you a bunch of technical differences but can say i have ridden both. I have a DASA 850 in my Rickter and rode other Rickters with the TS 865. Overall, the power is close to the same. Of course none of the boats were set up exactly the same and mine could use a bit more tweaking but I don't think you're going to see a drastic difference between the two. You will be happy with either one. Call Brian at www.thrustinnovations.com.

Come to Corson's Inlet the 2nd weekend in September and you'll be able ride both setups.

The difference is about 2k

I mean this with respect, but a 2k price difference is not a very fair statement. If you order from thrust its +$250 more for a scream shortblock over the DASA shortblock.

Even if you order directly from DASA and XS, the difference is $1250 ($5050 vs $6300). $500 of that difference is the OEM crank that XS gives you over the Hotrods supplied by DASA. Leaving the direct order price difference about $700.

Either way both are great motors. My opinion....The only real reason I can see to pay the xtra premium for the XS motor, is if you plan to run the XS carb/intake setup. If you have existing carbs/intake that you want to make work, then it makes more sense bang for buck to go with the DASA.

I have all intentions of finding a set of cases, buying a crank then sending the cases in for porting and machining when I order the top end kit. I plan to do the assembly. This would be the most cost effective way of doing it.

Sounds like you know what you want, contact a couple builders and see what they will do for you. To me, "web prices" are a starting point, every build is different.

What are you using for carbs/intake, exhaust and electronics?

The real questions is how soon do you want one?

Motors are very close to each other, the Dasa motors like to be propped a little lower than XS.. That has nothing to do with how the ski feels or power....

this is a solid post......you are a little biased these days, understandbly so........

I have ridden both....unfortunaly not back to back..........in fact I sold one of these unbuilt DASA SS kits back a few months ago for my roommate....regrettably so! I wish I would have bought and built it in retrospect

Cant go wrong with either package mechanically...and noone with experience will tell you any differet........truth is it comes down to customer service and who has the experience to guide from jetting to prop selection

Well, based on Josh being biased these days Im going to call Brian at Thrust and see what we can put together. As far as carbs exhaust and ignition... I just bought an MSD TL Im planning on running on my current setup. I have a b pipe and ATP waterbox, but would rather a PF pipe. I will need to buy carbs, my 38s will be for sale with my motor package when Im ready.

Thanks for the info guys!
