Just a Q to ask how you all actually stand in the tray? Did you all stand with both feet at the rear before you got footholds or were y'all one foot far forward, one far back then changed when you got footholds? Is everybody both feet at the rear 'cos i just CAN'T get the hang of both at the rear, FALL OFF AT THE SLIGHTEST TURN. Should i be practicing with both at the rear?

P.S. Only had my 1st ever ski for 1 month.

Either way....time on the ski and you will get better and figure what way your more comfortable. just takes practice

I went thru the same thing you are going thru when I got my first set of footholds. I used to ride left foot forward, right foot back until I got footholds. Now I switch up depending on what type of riding I am doing.

I used to ride with both feet in the holds at all times. I have now switched to a surf stance most of the time, with both feet in the holds only for aerial (attempts at) tricks.

I'm the same as Chic - I switch depending on what I'm doing. I really only ride around in the footholds if I'm setting up for a trick, otherwise I'm in surf stance, usually regular but then again it depends. You'll get the hang of it. The weirdest thing when you get footholds is learning to ride with both feet at the back of the tray, so I wouldn't worry that it feels odd now - it is!

So, the Isle of Skye, huh? You either have a very warm wetsuit, or a very short riding season.... Are there many jet skiers up there?

I'm with Chic on this one as well. If I am just cruising around I run left foot forward, right foot back(usually partially in the right foothold). If I am going to do anything requiring the use of both footholds, I stuff my feet in.

Thanks for the replies guys.

The Isle of Skye can be the coldest place in the entire cosmos! I have a CSR winter wetsuit and have only been riding the sj for a month but i intend on riding ALL the year round. The temp of the sea gets to about 6-8 centigrade so not THAT cold. No other off roaders around here so that can get boring on yer own and i aint taking the Aprilia RSVR out in the salt!

Left forward, right back. I switch depending on which way I am carving. I only stand at the back with both feet when I am jumping or doing some other stuff.
I tried out my friend's SXR with footwells, and it was a different feeling- I felt like I should ride with both feet back- I guess it would take some tweaking and getting used to.

I ride with both in the back the majority of the time, the majority of the time I'm doing tricks (or trying). This took me a couple days to get used too you just have to force yourself to ride that way until you do good.

If I'm carving hard I'll switch to one foot forward and one back depending which way I'm turning hard. On my SN with only a D-Cut ride plate (for handling) I can almost drag my shoulder on a turn now. IMHO the d-cut really lets me stay hooked up when I do a turn and hold the weight in the right place, it's awesome! I've tried the same thing w/out d-cut and slde out.

It's funny, I was just pondering this the other day.

I'm very much a goofy foot and most folks I ride with are regular stance, but I was wondering how relevant stance is anymore. It's seems a lot of the new riders have adopted the both feet side by side at the rear style and regular vs goofy has no meaning anymore. I can't even fathom riding this way but it seems to work for some.

I even saw a couple skis at Daytona '07 that only had a piece of turf the size of a foot print in the holds....that blew my old school mind!!
