Stand up motorcycle help??

Ok here is the project... I wanted to finish it before I posted on here but I think opinions would be better than trial and error. And EVERYBODY has an opinion so leave it when you read this.

I have an old 650SX I want to make it into a motorcycle. Here are my options. BUT any opinions or info is welcomed.

I could build it with a pocket bike or a small motorcycle or a goped Which ever would be better. Also ANY DONATIONS or info where I can pick up a used/wrecked bike or goped (chain drive only) would be great. I guess price would state what the power plant will be. I don't want 2 grand into this project.

Also do I make it front wheel drive with a rear wheel steer so it will ride like a standup, or make it like a real bike and have it rear wheel drive and font wheel steer. I like the front wheel drive but there will be no wheelies and handling/learning curve will be a problem.

I want it to ride about 6 inches off of the ground so I can drop off of curbs and such when I ride it in as advertisement in the parade... LOL and the bigger the motor the better. I will have it at rides for everybody to play on if it works out.

I know that there is a 3 wheeler couch out there but is there anything like this??

Oh no it will just be a motorcycle. No water at all. It will have a huge hole that the front tire hangs out of. AND I only want 2 tires. A trike would be easy especially if I used a off road skate board in the rear so that the rear tires turned as you lean but I want a steerable motorcycle not just a play on the sidewalk kinda toy.

No but I have seen them it is just like a 110 honda 3 wheeler with a front tire sticking out of the bottom of the hull and 2 wheels at the rear.

I think if I was doing the project, I would make it a front wheel steering, rear wheel driving trike.

You could put the front wheel in the middle of the hull and it wont be hugely noticeable and would have plenty of room to turn. THe rear wheels could be in the gunwhales so they are mostly unnoticeable.

The cheapest and easiest way to do this project is to get an old mini bike motor (which would be a edger motor with a clutch built on it) and use the rear end from a regular trike. Go with smaller tires to fit in the gunwhales.

It would be very simple, unless you wanted to start going with something more powerful and a suspension. If your just looking to mess arround, then I vote the trike ski hybrid plan. Very simple, very cheap. If you going to use it at a parade, use an electric engine.

I have been planning on doing this for over a year. I just now got the time/room and a donor ski. So I am going to build it this winter I have 2 weedeater motors as donor motors if needed but I would like to have some suspension and at least 30 MPH out of it:eek:mfg: if possible. I was thinking of a 110 cc pocket bike with suspension hand clutch and tray rocker gear lever with thumb throttle and right hand brake lever. Automatic would be better then you can have front and rear brakes with hand levers.

I could build a trike style ski at first then change it to a 2 wheel motorcycle later. But weaving down the road would be great and a trike won't lean that is a standups greatest aspect.

Are you going to fix the handpole or leave it like normal?

I feel that going with a 2 wheel vehicle instead of a 3 wheel setup that you might run into problems if the handpole is not fixed. Maybe its just in my head and once it were built it would just be about the learning curve.

EDIT: If going with 2 wheels straight down the center. It will have to be at a decent height off the ground so that when you lean to turn that the ski edges do not hurt the turning. Would be cooler to see the ski low enough to the ground that it looks like it is almost floating down the street.

Regular floating pole and I thought about the lean. If it is 6 inches the lean is pretty steep. I will check it tomorrow to see what degree. And if needed I could mount 2 "training wheels" at the bulk head or in the middle of the front and rear so that they are vertical when the ski is leaning over and have them at the hulls surface so that they aren't as visible.

i would try to find an old air cooled 125cc dirt bike and yoink the motor and some other components if you could use them.

that would be a good power plant you would probably need a electric fan or something to cool it unless you had decent ventilation.

instead of training wheels, what if you put some of that hard white plastic stuff that some people put on the bunks of their jet ski trailers along the bottom edges of the hull?

Find an old wrecked scooter, air cooled engine usually, has a flat base in the middle for mounting, smallish tires and its automatic, they made these in a variety of sizes,a 125 or so should work well, you would already have a frame mounted gas tank and electric start also. What I want to know is how you are going to hook up the steering?

I will have to cut down the steering cable and mount it on a lever arm coming off of the front tire. Sort of like hooking it to one side of the handle bar and pushing or pulling it. I was planning on using the whole front section and glassing or bolting it to the inside of the hull.

I sat the ski on a 4X4 and laid it over to one side and it leans 20 degrees with just 3.75" of ground clearance. I was going to make it about 6 inches so that will be more than you use during a turn. I think but if I start dragging the sides then I will install steel plates for that spark trail then I can't run from the cops at night.

20 degrees doesn't sound like that much but it is a bunch when you are standing one it. I have a picture but I can't upload it to here or the gallery it won't let me :dunno:

It's not a whole lot when your moving and inertia comes into play. They easily lay bikes past 60 degrees. YOu may be standing while they are sitting but your center of gravity wont be much higher.
