Stand up ski experience and advice needed.

Hi I posted about a year ago needing help with a sit down ski which by the the way is running fantastic but I now have the itch to get a standup.
I weigh roughly 180lbs and I'm 6'-5" and have no clue about standups, I've been looking at the Kawasaki 550, 750 and 800's also the Yamaha super jets but I don't know which one would fit me the best. I'm going to be using it in the Atlantic ocean wave jumping and the pamlico sound which usually always has some chop, my main goal is to get something that I can jump the waves with maybe pull off some flips and really just have a blast on carving with some speed I hate going slow!

Ok I don't want to start any fights lol but why do u think a superjet?

The 550 sx is an old turd. Its hard to find one in good condition. For the price of something like a 650sx or better, the 550 just isn't worth the time unless you like vintage or a project.

The 650sx is a great starter ski, but it's limited. It porpoises like a mofo, slides well but doesn't really carve, jumps pretty good because the pole is short, often old and unreliable, limited ability to upgrade the power, front exhaust is annoying.

The 750sx is a tank. The nose is especially heavy. It's an old race boat. It carves well but wont rotate like a superjet. Its much more ready to accept upgrades with its larger engine bay and same pump as the SXR, but it's still old and heavy.

The SXR is a tank compared to the superjet, but it's great design and wide tray makes it a great surf boat in big waves. It carves exceptionally and is a wonderful all around machine, especially for cruising around, bouys and chasing boats. They are discontinued so they have been rapidly increasing in used price so the bang for your buck is a lot less than a superjet. Its large size and heavy weight is a big disadvantage for flatwater and small surf, but people do roll them.

The superjet is an excellent all around ski. A stock hull is good for flatwater, surf and racing. The bolt ons you choose make it better for each of those disciplines. It has had very few changes since its inception in the 90s. There are loads of parts available due to this for anything you want to do, both new and used. This includes hull modifications, from extensions and sponsons to racing, to full rocker and shorten kits. When you finally decide you have the money to pick an aftermarket hull for your chosen discipline, you can take everything you already own and put it into another hull.

I've owned a 650sx, Superjet, X2, SXR and B1. I've ridden 550s and 750sx on a few occasions. The Superjet is by far my favorite.

Thank's very much for your input Vumad that's a huge help, from my research I found that i defintly dont want 650's, and from the sounds I don't want a 550 either if I could justify it I'd buy the Kawasaki 800sxr.

How about by the best value year?
I'm mechanically inclined and can do fiberglassing on boats I'm actually glassing and painting my brothers vintage 1964 sailboat right now.

The older square nose skis handle the same as a round nose up to a 2007. All have the same bottom deck. The 08+ have the pump set back and tubies. I would say what ever you can buy. The older ones really aren't dropping any more in value. It's summertime so everyone wants a 3500 for there old squares but you can find deals for 1000 every now and then.

96-07 w/ original 62t/61x motor w/ b-pioe, head, prop and possibly other parts already installed. Sn are also good if you need a budget, and 08+ are good bht run a little more pricey and probably arent worth the extra if you are not racing.

Its a boat though, so the best value comes from condition. A mint stocker is a better deal than a tired limited, but a minty limited would be a great buy.

Dont get a project. Save the projects for later. Your 1st boat us to meet people and try different boats.

Thanks guys for all the input it's exactly what I need and was hoping for!
A 1990 yamaha superjet was just listed for $800 with a trailer it looks like likes it's in very good shape is that a good deal or is it to old?

around my area that would be a steal even if its a 650. Not sure what its like in NC. a crappy single place trailer here fetches 300 bucks.
