SXR Stand Ups with Audio? Anyone have any good examples?

I'd really like some tunes while I'm skiing. Has anyone had any luck getting some speakers into their standup ski? I was thinking on the hood in the flat area above the hood latch would be a good area for two small speaker for the high freq's and a single 6 or 8" full range but would prefer something more local to where my head is (e.g. handle bar or handlepole mounted). I saw a wake boarder with speakers on the wake tower and I want some tunes now!

Anyone tried this?

I have a waterproof case for my ipod and it came with waterproof earbuds as well. Used it one weekend cautiously and had no trouble with water getting in. Its a Grace eco pod. Found it on amazon. Spent about 45$ total. Clips on your lifejacket strap.

you will have serious trouble with keeping an amp and all it's corresponding wires dry inside your hull. Also i'm pretty sure those "waterproof" speakers are not truly waterproof, just more water resistant than most other speakers. Honestly I think you are barking up the wrong tree in trying to put speakers in a standup. Try something like Two81's suggestion

Id certainly not waste the money. Get a waterproof MP3 player and be done with it. And you wouldn't want the weight inside the hull, especially if it were to get loose. Plus the possibility of sparks inside the hull.

So, actually waterproof speakers are available and very cheap - it does not take much to make a speaker waterproof and as I am in fresh water, it is even less demanding. Waterproof speakers are nearly identical to regular speakers, they just replace all the water sensitve parts - cone, diapragm, steel with water resistant parts (poly propylene cone, EPDM diapraghm, steel with alum or stainless). So that is no big deal.

As for hearing the music, my ski is stock and with the rear exhaust is pretty quiet. Having them locally placed (e.g. handlepole, not hood) would require less volume (and annoyance to others) for me to hear the music.

So - has anyone done this yet?

get a life proof case.. and then the headphone adapter.. there you go.
The Lifeproof case is 100% waterproof, then you screw in the headphone adapter, and your good to go !

Like I said... no ear buds.... too hard to hear, plus pushing them into my ear just about guarantees I'll get water in my ear which I try to avoid.

Throw some twelves on the hood cranking Rasberry Beret on the way by the ladies..............

yah, sounds good. My CD broke, can you send me yours?

Are you serious? You don't sound like a standup guy you should get a couch. Lol

yah, I'm all over it..... thanks for the advice!

i think you're crazy, why put speakers in a standup? Do you actually ride a standup? Buy a couch if you want to cruise around with music, or do like others suggested and get a waterproof case for an ipod.

I built a speaker setup for my 750sx - it was 2 4" speakers mounted inward on the gunwales with a home made 100w amp packed into a small pelican case mounted under the hood that also held an mp3 player. Very simple, set the volume, close the case, plug in wiring harness, and go. Novelty factor wore off quickly, i stopped using it. I like being aware when I ride, not distracted.

Do you have pic?

Go to west marine get the FUSION AUDIO head unit (make sure to get the extra warranty) it comes with 2 7in speakers install the head unit in the ski. I kept mine contained to the hood with a quick disconnect for the battery. Cut 2 holes on the side of the hood for the 7 inch speakers waterproof the wiring and connections. Then rock out on it gets pretty loud 50w times 4 I only used 2 speakers and only on flat water. Salt water makes it short in the speakers I keep an extra hood when I just wanna cruse the river and listen to tunes.

Not sure how old you are man. For all you know I've been riding since before you were born. I've been around skis for a pretty long while and built at least one sort of interesting setup. If I want to have music on my ski, I'm not sure why you need to comment on it - it's my thing man, if you don't dig it, step off.

This sounds cool, would like to see some pics. . And yes, I can see where the novelty might wear off. Still I'd like to try it.

Very cool, I'm pretty much fresh water only so no worries. I like the idea, is this side firing (sides of hood?) I think that would be annoying for those around me, so I want the speakers directed at my head. Any pics?

How's that for aimed at your head?

I doubt anyone who wants to mount speakers on a standup rides hard enough to require a second hand to hang on with.

So 10lbs for a extra battery, 10 lbs for a amp/head unit and speakers. Guess it doesn't matter on a SXR. What's another 25lbs.

I think this would be cool on a couch, but for a standup.....

I think adding stuff like that to a ski is like throwing gas on a fire, they already have enough problems without audio stuff, but to each his own I suppose.

Get an old couch hull. Modify it into a shuttlecraft for your stand up. Something like a Yamaha GP hull. Wire it for sound and run it off a boat battery. Charge the battery back up at the end of every day. Set your couch-craft up so it carries a cooler full of cokes, an anchor and some bouys in addition to your sound system. You could even craft the nose or sides of the ski into seats. Drop anchor, detach, ride your stand up as a stand up, reattach and cruise back home.

Putting speakers into a race ski would be bad enough. Adding all that weight to a freestyle ski would completely defeat the point. If you absolutely insist on doing this to a ski, use a WaveBlaster 1 or a Seadoo HX. They'd be a better platform for a sporty jam.

Not trying to be a dick, but if you're riding a stand up and afraid to get your ears wet, you might be riding the wrong boat. The Wave Blaster 1 and Seadoo HX are really sporty fun to ride boats that will keep your head out of the water and give you the crusing conditions you are seeking. Can even ride 2 up.

You can do anything you like. You can put speakers into the stand up. It just defeats the point of owning the stand up. If I were going to do it, I'd either put them in the hood facing towards me using bullet connectors, or in the sides of the tray facing my feet or slightly up, if I wanted to do more than just cut a round hole. In the front of the tray facing backwards will not get you much sound.
