Start button not working, Help

Hi, I've seen some similar start stop button issues threads but none with my exact symptoms.

With my wiring in the normal places my ski won't turn over / start.

If I swap the black / white with the red / brown connectors by the ebox then my stop button will start my ski or if I pull the lanyard off the ski will start. But the start button won't kill the ski.

Does that sound like my start button is bad?

What are the next steps, take apart the start button? Or anything else I can do to further troubleshoot / narrow down the issue?

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

If my start button is bad can I just replace it, or do I need to replace all switches and wiring? I'm not concerned about the price so much, it's just the time to remove and re-run the wires I hope I won't need to do.

If it were me I would take it apart and check the condition of the electrical components. If they are crusty I would either send it to OCD Solutions for a rebuild or just buy a new one. You can also just buy a new wiring harness and use the old housing which you can get from a couple vendors here.

No, you cannot replace just the start button. It appears, judging by your description, that your start button is at fault or one of the wires from it rotted along the way, or the male plug connectors (brown /red) are corroded. Suggest you remove the 2 screws retaining the switch to the handlebar. There you'll see the start switch which you can disassemble in place. Sometimes the rubber boot has been torn (or disintegrated in dry climate) and the contacts need cleaning from water damage. Should that be the case , I could send you a rubber boot - free, around Christmas time. Should that switch not be the issue, you can replace the cable/ switch assy. (inquire within)P1050467.JPG

I believe it sounds like your tether side Kill switch is bad (Very Common). Problems here, will not let your ski start. By swapping wires, you can now use your kill switch to start.

What we see, is the rubber cap, that seals the switch assembly can actually get deformed, and hold the switch button down, even when the tether key is inserted. This is from storing the ski over the years without the tether key on.

Take all switches apart, clean, and inspect everything. Should be a pretty simple fix really.

There was damage to the red wire in the handle pole (red is for the start switch).

Since I swapped the connectors and then the red button/stop would start it, but the green button/start would not stop it, that indicated the green button was not working but the red was, so the problem was in the start button or it's wiring to the connector.
