start/stop switches, whats the best choice?

My start/stop switch is only letting the engine spark when I let off the crank button. Didn't figure that until my waterbox exploded while cranking my new top end over to try to start. How long do they normally last? I guess I'm wondering if its worth buying a new oem one or buying a used one and taking my chances?

Enhancers gone bad give that same symptom. If not that, get the new oem harness/switches only which is less expensive and swap it into your housing/buttons. JM sells them too.

Looks like i should swap the spare in to be sure before I order then.....

Ya probably a problem with the wiring of the MSD enhancer. Check that out first.

Swap the white wires. I had this happen once.

Just so we are clear, it wasn't doing this before I tore the top end down for rebuild at the end of last summer. I never opened the ebox didn't even detach the wires from ebox to stator. So I couldnt have messed up the wiring itself, but for sure the MSD itself could have gone bad, we all know about those things lol.

It’s the MSD Enhancer. We have had this happen three times. The enhancer is great when it works but they don’t last

Mine just started acting up one day at a competition. When the ski got back home I started testing things. Hit starter and nothing would happen until I let off the button then it would fire. Pulled ebox apart. checked all grounds............... I unplugged the white wires and for the hell of it I swapped them. Ski cranked up........... Do not know why, something may have shorted but let it work going the other direction........... But feel free to not try it.....

Wasn't blowing your suggestion off I was making sure everyone understood the situation. I have to try and get this thing going so I can test the new top end at the lake after work tomoroow to leave after work friday for the trip to parker to do the poker run this weekend. Time crunch!

Freakrider is correct, same thing happened with my Enhancer.

Everyone was correct, it ended up being the MSD. Ski fired right up with the protec modded ignition in.
