So anyways my bendix grenaded so I out in a minty one. Well, when I crank it over it engaged very very rough sounding and then it'll end up just whining, and then engage again.. It sounds so so so so rough. Really bad. What could it be? Checked it with a jumper to make sure I didn't have a low battery. Planning on pulling the motor and starter to get a better look.

Yuppp does the same thing with stock cdi. It cranks over strong but sounds obnoxious and then the bendix free spins

Well you've got it narowwed down to one or the other... The free spinning bendix does not sound good.

When the previous bendix went, did it damage the starters snout gear any or the large bendix gear on the backside

When my bendix stops engaging the flywheel when the starter spins I change the bendix

When my starter starts cranking sorta slow with an electronic type grinding noose I change the starter

I don't know if it damaged it. I will check now. Got the motor out and am pulling the flywheel again. Only thing I noticed is in the flywheel cover I didn't have a washer with my previous bendix. So I added one I had laying around, probably not the right thickness. So I thought that was the issue, but I took it out and it did the same thing. The bushing in the flywheel cover doesn't have much play but the case bushing does. I figured if one of the bushings was good that it would be fine for this weekends ride. But would a loose case bushing do this?

I had a mint bendix in my spare parts and I inspected all the ears and stuff and it seemed to be fine to me...

The bushing will cause teeth to break or strip on the backside of bendix and wear the starter snout teeth down, as in their height gets shorter...

You know more when you get it all the apart

How the other bendix fail ?

Do the teeth on this flywheel look fine?

Hard to tell from your pic... Checked one of mine that's good. Here are a few picks

I've had worse tip wear with aluminuim flywheel gears no issue

Thanks for taking those pics! My wheel is fine. Looks like I'm gonna be sending my bendix and starter to jetmaniac to see what he thinks. I think it's a combination of loose bushings and a tired starter.
