Starter/bendix issues..

Of course this happens when there's a Freeride to go to next weekend! Oh well. Might as well not rush and do it right and cover every basis so it's bulletproof for a long time again.

I have the bushings here. I was gonna replace them but wanted to just ride today. Didn't think the old loose ones were gonna cause much of an issue. Guess I was wrong?
 
when mine came apart My spring pieces got behind the flywheel and took out the stator ............ sounded similar to what your describing yours does . Then the starter went out in a few days . check it all at once !

So my starter was making a terrible noise, but after taking it apart and cleaning everything out it works and sounds perfectly now. The bendix I had laying around was good too. The issue was the bushings. They were so loose that the bendix was bouncing right off of the flywheel teeth. Replaced the bushings and it works perfectly now :)
