Starter \ bendix troubleshooting

Location

My starter has been randomly failing to engage the flywheel, so I pulled the cover to investigate. I'm curious if the rounded teeth on the bendix and flywheel gear would be enough to cause my intermittent starter spinning?

Everything else seems good, no play in the case bushings, bendix is nice and smooth, no signs of water intrusion.

What do you think?

Thanks.

flywheel gear ring is definately shot...bendix looks fine.....either a new / good flywheel or u can have the ring gear removed and another one fitted (which u get from a secondhand flywheel which is buggered somewhere else...eg. magnets loose or woodruff key slot damaged, etc...machine shop can do it.

Hey guys thanks for the reply sorry for the delay in my response. I'm currently looking for a new \ used FW or ring gear.
Battery, and cables seem good with no corrosion, and cranking speed appears to be healthy.

Check to make sure u have a washer behind your bendix (between the case and back of bendix).
Also Jetmaniac should have the plug on a new lightend flywheel, that one looks like its been running with the issue so long it ground out the teeth.
