Starter problems

So the other day I went I start my ski and the starter sounded like it went, pressed the button and it began to turn and then kinda slowly stopped like it got stuck. So I pulled the starter today, looks like it was a cheap replacement one but how can I text it to be sure it's shot. I does nothing went disconncetd from the bendix I can hear the relay click from the ebox when the switch is pressed so I doubt it's that. The spindle on the starter feels pretty hard to turn, can only turn it with pliars not by hand and almost like there rough spots inside where it's rubbing. Should it be like this? Thanks for any input.

The last 4 soliniod a I had fail clicked but did not send b+ to the starter......

I did have a starter fail and it was hard to turn by hand as you described, kinda went like yours spun then, Spun slow then dragged then Nothing...... Relay was shot too

Jumped starter to battery And nothing

You can verify the relay is ok by hitting the start button and test for 12 volts at the fat b+ cable at the starter

Okay well tried spinning it off the battery and nothing, defiantly is shot by the feel of the spline. Is it normal for a starter to just fail with no signs. As far as I new when I brought this ski right before the season started the previous owner put this starter in. To me it feels like something has swelled up inside and is rubbing so what causes this, thanks. Waiting to hear back from jetmaniac hopefully can get a new one out to me for the weekend

You can take your broken starter to the parts house and see what it would cost for a rebuild too. Probably better off going oem though.

A used OEM starter is better than a new aftermarket starter any day of the year.

And yes, they do "Just die"

I've taken so many starters apart and frankensteined them together, tigersharks, kawi, and yama. If i were you, take it apart. The weak point of these starters are the super stretchy o-rings, allowing a little moisture past, equals donezo washington. Pull it apart, make sure the brushes contact and move freely. If corrosion, clean it up. I don't think any starters just quit without having the chancee to be simply fixed, my bet corrosion is holding your brushes back.
