You can, but the base is galvanized instead of stainless. The OEM Yamaha works well as do the ones from Mercury outboard motors. That's what I'm using now, Stainless base and only $20.00.

I use the seadoo one that's a new replacement for the olders models called a update kit relay, comes with the waterproofed pigtail connector...about $40-45 from Seadoo. Way better than the MSD ones, Yamaha ones work good, but rust out bad in salt water....
