Freestyle Static vs dynamic timing differences MSD TL

Anyone ever had an instance where your set static timing on a MSD TL turned out to be different when you timed it with a light?

I see it differ a little usually, but not enough to be concerned about. How much different is it to what is supposed to be? If it's a lot, you may have some switch settings to play with.

We were just debating whether it was even possible and if it was worth the effort of getting a timing light to check it.

Then why do we sweat using a timing to confirm static timing?? Seems like a wasted step to me. I've always set static and the dynamic has been where it was set statically.

If you cut a TL pick up in half you will see why. Coils floating in epoxy. They can be up to 4 deg diff im told

But the led will light up when the magnet hits the pickup and you set the timing off that.

set it with the led. it'll stay the same.
