That's badass. I bet there would be a market for those spacers, I know there would be. You can't really wipe off the OEM spacers, it's like the grit ans stains are the finish, lol. I love those spokes and polished hub, and the OEM spacers don't really jive when it comes to looks.
Yea between work and my daughter I get kinda lost in the mix. I've seen those Ohlins USD's online and they look nice. How do you like the USD's? I think they make the difference in handling and looks. At least with new forks your not taking any risk in getting a banged up set and you will be assured of what condition the internals are in.
What Triple clamps did you go with? I went with RSW, which the bar clamps seem a little less beefy, but I have laid the bike over a couple of times on the trail (in Arkansas) and they did OK. It seems like there would be a bigger market for the conversion clamps.
As far as the TV style brake light, I went back to the brick... It was tough, but the small one was not DOT approved. I have seen on thumpertalk that other XRL enthusiasts will replace the rear fender with a CRF or CRFX fender, then run the Acerbis DOT plate holder and brake light set up. It looks good, but I'm not sure if I want to cross that bridge yet. The XRL does have that timeless styling, much like a Jeep Wrangler, pleasantly dated IMO. I haven't seen any DOT approved rear lighting set up that really turns me on, so the brick will live for now.
The chain guard I drilled out and then took a dremel w/ a 80 grit sanding drum to it. Be warned- that is some TOUGH plastic!!
I was noticing that the CRF front caliper is the same as the XRL one, but it just uses alot less material. I had to get a new caliper bracket when I went to the CR forks that I had, and I couldn't find a caliper bracket, so I had to buy a complete front brake set up from an '02 CR250 for $20, that's when I noticed the difference in the calipers. I would swap mine out, but really have no need to, but I like to fix things until they are broken, haha. I want to swap out the rear one too if I can find one that is lighter.
I like the look of the aftermarket headers. I was looking at the FMF megabomb, but don't want to shift the power up too high, away from low end. I was thinkning of getting the stock header coated here this summer.
I FINALLY got my FCR-MX carb dialed in. It took some patience, but that carb rocks.
Right now I have been eyeing side covers from XR600's and wanting to swap out the 2nd and 5th gear, and add a kick start, but that will be a major event so I have been kinda sheepish about it, cause you gotta split the cases. When I get the cover it will be a magnesium one from an old XR600.
