Steering cable bulkhead

What I'm doing wrong other than wsm gave me the wrong cable? Bushing I can "possibly" slide over the rubber cable seal, title round plastic clips ID is to small to clip anywhere on the cable, washer won't slide over cable seal... What am I doing wrong other than overthinking this? This is a SN hull and supposedly the SN cable from wsm.

Yeah, but the clips inside diameter is bigger than the recess it "fits" in. About to drill it out...

You have the parts in the proper order in the first pic. The rubber gland seal goes on tight but not crazy tight and should slip just past the notch in the cable. The plastic clip opens up and closes back into the notch. The metal washer buts up against the plastic clip. The threaded cap locks it all up against the bulkhead.
It helps to remove the rubber boot that comes installed at the cable joint when installing these parts. Then put it back on after the metal washer.
I'm assuming the new cable did not come with cable ends or nuts. These should be off as well and get installed last.

I'll try it again when I get home, it just feels like the plastic clip is going to snap if I try and clip it in the cables recess.

I installed an sbt cable on my RN recently and the white clip snapped in with some pressure, but nothing to make me think it would break.

If u dont have a spare be careful. If u got a set of calipers, measure OD on cable notch and ID in clip to make sure they're not way off.

Maybe they are different from end to end to keep them from getting installed wrong...have you tried it on the other end of the cable?

Just mic-d the cable, both ends are .295, the plastic clip is .275, which doesn't seem like a lot but there is zero chance of clipping the clastic without breaking the other side... The ends of the cable are different lengths, yes but the recess is the same. I'm about to just make new half moons and be done with this lol
