Steering cable for shortened pole

Im gonna cut 3.5 inches off my stock pole next weekend...can I use the stock steering cable..seems like I would also need a shortened cable. Ive done a search, but cant find any info on this...thanks in advance

Same cable man just more slack inside your hull.

No shortened cable needed. I have no idea how you would shorten it and keep it reliable for years.

You just tuck the extra into the hull.
In fact, I just put my ski back together. -4 pole, -2.5 steering. There's a bit of extra cable in the bilge, but it works.

yes, you will just have a little more of your cable stuff down inside of your hull, no big deal, you are putting too much thought into it

you should not need a shorter cable. The distance between the mounting area on upper handle pole mount (where the steering bolts to) and the ball joint on the turn plate is not changing thus no need for a shorter cable... There will just be extra cable inside of the ski instead of up in the pole like before the shortening...

Now if you were to go to a super super shortened turn plate (>2.5") I think you need to switch cables, but I'm not positive.

Even with a plate shorter than 2.5"???

Seems like it just barely clears with a 2.5" x metal plate. But I guess you would just trim more off the cable if you had something even shorter???

I can't see the plate being much shorter than that. You hit the bearing before too long.

ya, i agree with you, but isn't the new x-metal system -3.25"???... that must be right on the pivot.

Or how about that other recent company touting -4? I'm sure they would be factoring in inches gained from straight bars, and the plate though correct?

So does Pat. At -4, the steering knuckle must be forward of the bearing stem.
Probably decreases throw a bit.

As long as you aren't changing the distance from the steering plate to the cable bracket, you'll be fine. But as long as you're chopping from the bottom of the pole you'll be fine.
I had to cut from the top on my kawi and it created nightmares that I think I've finally cleared up after 4-5 rides.
