Steering Cable

Can someone direct me in any simple way on the order all the components of the steering cable are installed in the thru hull passage. The ski I have only turns left because i think the clip that holds the cable in place is in the wrong spot. Can y'all tell from the pictures below what is out of order? To me it looks like the white clip should go behind the threaded seals in the groove on the cable, is that correct? Or is it installed correctly and maybe the cable is bent/bad? The first shows the current order, and the second is where I'm thinking the clip goes?? Only thing making me think it could potentially be the cable is it is very hard to operate the cable itself back and forth.

It looks right to me but it's hard to tell in the pic. Are both ends of the outer jacket locked down? If one end is able to move then you could get what you describe.

If the ski only turns in one direction, then the cable is possibly broken or worn thru the outer jacket somewhere as well. Broken is obvious because you can operate one end of the cable independently of the other, you can push but you can't pull. Worn thru is more difficult to detect because the center cable itself is still intact and operates just fine by hand in both directions but when you put it under load, the center cable is able to "bulge" out the side of the outer jacket and all the movement is lost in the herniation.

Sounds like you inherited this project, are you sure it's even the right cable for that ski?

As far as I know it's correct, I was thinking that it was a bend or broken sheathing along those lines. Since it's so hard to operate the cable itself I think I will start with a new cable and try that. My cable on my other ski can move with two fingers back and forth. On this one the rubber seals that seal off the internal workings of the cable are missing. It is probably rusted and corroded inside

Well I just pulled the cable out and I couldn't see it on the ski but it has a bend in it up by the handle bars. Not an insane bend, but enough where I could see it causing friction between the inner cable and sheathing, and also corrosion is aggravating it.
