steering cable

This has just happened. When i turn to the right and the steering cable retracts on the nozzle end of cable and extends on the handle bar end of cable the further the cable goes in on the nozzle end it starts to grip and moves far less freely. i have isolated it to the cable by disconnecting both ends of the cable and testing it is actually the cable and not steering or anything else

Turning to the left it is nice and smooth and loose in the steering as it used to be in both directions.

I lubed up the cable ends as much as possible and it has made an improvement but is still stiff turning to the right.

Any ideas how to resolve without replacing the cable.

Make sure it’s not bent. Even a little will do it. If it is, hold it with smooth jawed pliers or wrap with a rag and then hold it then use something to bend it back. I use a piece of 3/8 stainless tubing so you can put pressure in the correct spot.

You could attach an oem tank air intake soft green hose, short piece up top, ziptie seal it and slow drip WD40 with PTFE Teflon down the cable for a few days via gravity. You can blow air into above setup to assist getting it through the cable, it might loosen it up.

slow drip hey. i dunno how well it would work without taking the steering cable out to get it vertical. it is a pain in the ass to get the steering cable out as so many parts have to come out to do it. i have not got one out without pulling the motor and pump.

Should be able to remove it with only taking tank and rideplate off

Above method did free up a sticky oem cable for me for several yrs thus far and it's easy. I believe I saw the idea here, give it a try it might surprise you.
