steering nozzle bore

anyone here do steering nozzle boring? I have a protect nozzle that's pretty thick cast aluminum and would like it bored to about a 88mm. it can probably go bigger, but I'm trying to be conservative.

You really need a six jaw chuck in order to fixture and a 4-inch live center to position the nozzle correctly before boring it. Nozzles are hard to get done locally at a walk in price just due to the setup required. If you want a straight thru bore most shops can do it thou. The consensus is to run a 2 degree 12 minute taper in the steering nossle. Also note what your reduction nozzle is. The taper from 61x and 62t are a good bit different 26 degrees vs 21 degrees so the 61x will load up pump pressure quicker

I would recommend #ZERO He has been preaty busy, and hard guy to get in touch with. Paul Lehr @Jr. on the boards would be my first phone call

Unfortunately, Thats a loaded question that knowone can answer. Its just something to note when comparing setups. If it was me I would pick a 61x reduction nozzle for 760ccs or less in a freeride application. That being said, they will both work awesome once you get the boat to someone that actually knows how to tune a pump well. Tuning is my strongest weakness. I can understand why things work, I just cant "feel" what needs to change. So take that into account when you weight my advise

Yeah I read the 155 pump question thread. That's one of the reasons why I want to bore my steering nozzle. The xft string nozzle for 144mm pump has a ID of 90mm. That's huge! Maybe that's for a big motor. I'm in a heavily ported 701. With 83mm pistons. I think the pump would do a little better with a bigger steering nozzle. Also I'm pretty sure sergio knew what he was doing when he made those nozzles
