Still looks like a square nose

This build has already happened but I'm going through some old pics and I'm bored.

What it looked like when I bought it.
92 square nose ex race boat. All stock with a 61x.

What it looks like now

I'll probably forget some things that I did to this but here is the rundown. I built this with the intentions of it to still look like a sn.

All hull mods were done with epoxy and glass or carbon.
Weighed in on the rad dudes scale at 323lbs with full tank of gas and big battery.

-3 hull
Rockered
10lb carbonfiber hood sectioned 3"
Flimsy sn plastic nose piece thrown in trash and replaced with reshaped pole area moved forward 4" and a smaller carbonfiber nose piece made.
Engine compartment reinforced, smoothed and painted.
Tray widened 3" and lowered 2"
Sponsons
Superfreak inspired carbonfiber exhaust.
Stock 701 with head and pipe
X-metal pole and pole bracket
RRP steering
Thrust trim
Solas pump
Hooker prop
Epic ignition

I'll post more pics later.

She looks great. I've heard about this build from some of the locals( both Jason's) . Working on my own an build right now -5,rockered,wide tray, and custom nose. How many layers of glass did you put over the rocker? I have 2-3 layers of 1708 on the inside tied all the way back to under the engine. Not sure how many layers I will put over the outside.

I heated and bent the rocker in it. I only glassed the sides and everything got V'd out so I used as much glass as needed to make the thickness the same. image.jpgimage.jpg

Rebuilding the rear bond line

Exhaust and bulkheads installed. Since I didn't want to put foam in the tray I put in two bulkheads to help support the tray.

For some reason I didn't take many pics of the tray going back together, I was probably in one of those moods where I was trying to get work done. image.jpg

Their was a lot more glass work done then is shown in this pic but this is the pic closest to a completed tray.

On to the nose.
I didn't like I idea of multiple cuts to create the rocker for a couple reasons. One, I didn't want to V out and glass all those cuts and two, I feel like it makes the ski slightly longer. I decided to use all thread and heat to slowly crank the hull up where I wanted it.

I didn't alter the bond line much because I did not want to change the look of it, again trying to keep it looking like a square nose.

For the pole area I wanted to add some strength and completely redesign that area. Since running the x metal pole I realized how much that area flexes.
image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg

Huge improvement in strength in this area, no flexing at all. I kept track of weight throughout this project, the nose is not only stronger but lighter.

Again there was a lot more sanding, grinding and glassing then the pics show.

For those of you who haven't seen this ski up close, there is a ton of work in it. I've ridden it many times and am impressed with how well it flips and rolls.

I know I'm an outcast, but I like the square handling better than round. A stock length square flips and rolls with ease in 3 ft+ surf.

I'm sure shortened/rockered/ wide tray like this just makes things better though.

Thanks for all the compliments guys. This build happened over a couple winters so the next group of pics might seem out of order but oh well.

Don't sell it Dave! If you do me or Jason would have to buy it to keep it in the family. You should make it a trophy case to sit in at the marina!

Not many pics of the hood and nose piece. It was my first time vacuum bagging so I was to wrapped up in it to take pics. The hood turned out good, my biggest problem was I cut the bag too small and had so bridging in the corners, but I was happy with it. Ended up with a 10lb hood compared to the stock that I believe was around 25lbs.

Here's the plug
