Stock 66e vs mod 760 (opinions wanted)

I am running the 66E motor with the waterdawg intake and exhaust. I have it in Jeff's REV hull. I put 48mm novi's on and a R&D head running 180 PSI. It is hand full at best. I can repeat what Superramjet said. It takes alot of time to find the right combination of parts to make it a hard hitting ski. Yes it wants to run fast, very fast. It is not the hard hitting monster that I was hoping for. This makes me think that I don't have the correct pump\ prop combination correct. It just takes time and money to get dialed in. So when someone has it figured out let me know. Here is my story, you go to the lake and it doesn't run correct. So you go home and make some changes order some more parts like jets, springs and the like. Come back a week later and find you have to make some more changes. Then something breaks and you wait a week for more parts. This just seems to go on and on. I finally changed the read valves and that took away all the my carb tunning problems I was having. Not being carb tuner, I didn't catch the signs my motor was giving me that they were wore out. I should have changed them out first thing, but they looked good. They were used and I learned a lesson. Replace the darn things if in dought about how good they are.

Hopefully I am about at the end of this process. Just need to find the correct size prop to really make it jump up and take hold.
I would recommend the GP800 if you have the time to work with it. I would have a good running 2nd ski to take to the lake with you while you get it dialed in. IMO.

thanks for the info lake man. getting the 800 to act like a freeride motor is obviously very important. Has anyone gotten the stock 144 mm pump to work well in this application?

hopefully everyone can help each other out and we can narrow down the options to what works at a somewhat affordable price.

I found that we were over spinning the stock 6 vein OEM pump. I switched to a 140 - 12 vein mag pump made by Solas. So far so good. I can't remember for sure the prop size. I have been working on getting the motor set up to run correctly and have not spent any time testing props. I am about there. Using this pump made a big difference in the way it preformed. Call me if you need more info. Like I said you can come ride it. We are also planning to go the Texas ride in Sept. If you go you can look me up. I would think that Jeff would have some good advise but it is hard to pin him down on this. If any body gets this Solas pump, let me know because I sure can help save them alot of time sitting it up.

Here's some pictures of a ported 61x verses the stock 66e cylinder and sleeves.

Does Tom's rebuilt 66e engine have the head and exhaust on it yet?

I'd like to check the port timing with a degree wheel and dial indicator. :scratchchin:
