Stock cdi vs msd

It depends how you ride surf :)

The cone is just a piece of the pump tuning puzzle...I can't speak on a 9/15. Hooker? Stock pump?

My buddy is running a tbm with a 9/15 hooker and I think it feels better than my Solas mag with 9/15 hooker. And less $$$$. You can find tbm used for $200

Rev limits kill riding IMO. You need the extra RPM's to spin a low end prop hard up the face/off the lip of a wave.... my prop would be useless in surf without the MSD's curve, extra R's, and heck the extra spark I suppose. (I have done back to back in dark and MSD fires hard!)

I imagine EPIC is better if you need your own curves....I would like to try one for sure...

I have not and will never try total loss I imagine.

About the higher rev limit I completely agree they kill you out there off waves. I went from a 6m6 to 61x cdi and I can really tell. Those extra revs right as you come un hooked really make a difference. I swear I'm a mph or two faster too...but won't know for sure until I ride next to a boat.

I'll just be more careful now with wide open runs. But I'm completely stock so not too worried. Adjustable rev limit would be wonderful for letting people try my ski when I'm convincing them to get in to it!

What do you guys think about MSD enhancers on the Yamaha vs. stock as far as idling out for no wake zones and such?

Is it bad sitting there at a couple thousand RPM or less with that crazy timing curve for 5 or 10 mins?

Absolutely not. It's plug and play and forget you ever installed it.

Until you ride someone else's boat with a stock CDI and realize how much it sucks.

In my experience it adds a little more vibration at idle, not too noticeable. I took the MSD that came with my sn I bought for my gf and stuck it in my RN, I was expecting more gain, but it is noticeable, so i guess i am happy lol.

Yeah my motor does seem to vibrate at idle pretty good. It's not uncommon for me to come home from riding with loose bolts. As long as there's not some super lean condition going on with the timing curve I guess I'll be okay.

I just hate idling through no wake zones!

It has been mentioned a thousand times in here over the years.....but never hurts to type it again for people to see. Never crank your ski with the plugs out of the caps....the electricity needs somewhere to go.....and it will swell the capacitors inside the MSD if it has no escape. When this happens your CDI will appear to be fine until it gets warm (30 seconds to a minute) and then will backfire and piss and moan.

Just food for thought if you are new and dropping 300 bones on one of theses things. I imagine the same thing can happen with EPIC....and probably even stock over time...

I know it is small and silly but I wish Yamaha had a place to "park" your plugs, like Kawasakis do, when tinkering....

I upgraded from the msd to the epic. Both are great but the epic has more to offer.

Friday I just put my enhancer in a friends limited Sj with dry pipe and a water injection I set up, with the enhancer and it's better timing curve all I can do further to adjust the msd curve is to advance or retard the stator. With the Epic I have complete control over the curve and that would help in this situation.

On last thing I thought u read some where that the epic is on for 62t electronics I run a full 61x electronic set up. Can u buy them for 61x same goes for the msd
