Reinforcement is a good idea but depends how big you go and how you land

Stock as in not even reinforced?

Some people are saying they cracked their SJ hulls on flat water or nothing bigger than a boat wake. That's my main concern about the stock hull since I'm mostly interested in surf riding.

Corsons is ok, I really prefer riding out of cape may, but fun can be had everywhere. If your looking for a solid ski I have a ready to ride freshly built AM ski for sale.
Yeah I saw that one, looks amazing. I don't think I could drop that much cash all at once right now though, but if you're willing to take half up front + something like $500/mo. until it's paid off I could probably swing it.

Otherwise, I'm still in the market for something in the $3k range :p

Nah I'm sure they're reinforced. I read "handle in surf" differently than you intended. But like I said it mostly depends how you land. They don't handle pancaked barrel rolls

Would be willing to work something out, come check out the ski and shoot the poop. Always looking to help new riders get into the sport.

@KTM434 is correct, you can do a lot on a RN, best bet is just buy something that will start every time and get out and ride.

Here are a couple of threads about the issue in case you think I'm blowing smoke. To be honest when I posted my issues for the first time I thought I was the only one with problems.

I met franny in daytona this year. He seemed like a real stand up guy. Hes not the kind to take advantage so im sure his ski would be worth your time to consider. Id start there.

Also if you are going to be riding with guys that have thkmgs like predators, a stock superjet is going tk give you am hull envy.

I can ride a bone stock superjet in the surf as long as I don't try to do anything but surf waves. From small to overhead surf you can ride with a totally stock ski if you know what you are doing.

Once you start crashing or trying anything other than a little bit of re entry, small nose stabs, and surf riding is when you start to run into problems.

You don't need to go balls to the walls right off the bat.

a bilge, a limit rope, a hood strap will get you started. Then footholds, and other handling mods, then more power... Then.....

That would be awesome, you around this weekend? Weather looks like it could turn crappy tomorrow but Sunday might be nice.

Haha, sounds like I'd run into problems with a stock hull. I get my fill of surf riding on a surfboard :p I don't think I'd be able to resist the temptation of jumping the waves if I were standing on a board with 50+ horsepower...

Hey its nice to find some jersey riders, i just picked up a 2015 about a month ago, I've been riding a lot on the mullica since it stays a little warmer. Hopefully getting it out again this thursday. Im dying to get it out to brigantine beach but looks like i may be waiting till next season.

Padding the tray is a real good idea too, your knees and back will thank you. I like 18mm its great for surf landings.

And absolutely do not ride surf without a bilge pump. If you do break down make sure to be towed slowly...cooling sys can pressurize and fill your motor with water. This mainly applies to factory pipe exhaust

Just to reinforce what has already been said before...

Necessities for surf (even for noobs):
-Electric bilge pump
-Pole limiting rope
-hood straps

Everything else is not a bad idea for surf, but I wouldn't recommend riding even mild surf without the above three. Once you have time I would recommend reinforcing, foot straps or holds. After that, the rest is personal preference and based on the size of your wallet. You definitely can have more than enough fun with a stock SJ (with the 3 surf necessities) until your ability eclipses what the ski can do.
