Ive been seeing quite some threads now about bad wrist pin bearings in the 865SS and stuff like that. Got me thinking, what are the normal running hours excpected on wrist pin bearings and a crank, in these engines?
What are the main diffrence on a OEM crank vs a SBT crank, im guessing bearings and rods?
Would a SBT or NON OEM crank do good enough in a BB engine for one season, 50-100 hours. If wrist pin bearings are changed after xx hours?
Because its actually cheaper to buy a SBT trued and welded crank, than getting one rebuild (a least in DK).
And could some one please tell me what is better, and how many hours is expected on OEM, WSM or cageless seadoo tyle wrist pin bearings?
Thanks

SBT cranks belong in stock or near stock Rec engines. Not billet cylinder performance motors.

I took a chance and ran a SBT crank last year and all went well, but I was nervous. I had sent my OEM crank off for a rebuild at CC's and grabbed a SBT from Jetmaniac. I used new Honda CR500 bearings for top end bearings (Dasa recommended those). It all went fine but when Thrust pulled the crank to stroke my engine he said that SBT crank needed replacement. Luckily SBT will replace them with a one year warranty. I agree with Matt that SBT's are best used in stock or rec skis. You're playing with fire in a billet cylinder! I got lucky.

What was wrong with sbt crank?

My brother had 800 Litres fuel thru his 827 X Scream motor when he changed small end bearings as a precautionary measure after seeing the carnage on here. To be honest they were still 100% mint. He always runs 99 Octane fuel and Pro Axis oil.
Fogs motor after every use and warms up engine properly.

i was unlucky enough to have a sbt crank fail after about 10 rides on a new ss865.
the rear end bearing cage came apart cost me a full rebuild on a new motor doh.
in saying that i haven't had any problems with stb cranks till that point (and have used a few) i just got unlucky but went the an oem the 2nd time round.

I'm running a SBT crank now in my SS865.
I wasn't going to run one but called Tream Scream and they said the are running a couple of their engines with SBT cranks and they are good so far...fingers crossed
