Stock Superjet Stalling randomly

91 Stock 650 superjet, recently purchased.

Had 4 outings, no issues. 5th outing, when I was coming back in from riding, it had a quick stall while idling. Would restart, but die after 4-5 seconds. Pulled it out of the water and called it a day. Cleaned the spark plugs, flame arrestor, start/stop/lanyard switches.

6th outing today, ran for maybe half a tank, no issue. I dumped, restart it, went like 20 feet, then at half throttle, it suddenly cut out, and I was ejected. It was like someone pulled the lanyard.

Tried to restart it, would turn on, but sputter and die. Waited 5 minutes, and started, ran again for maybe 10 mins.

Cruising home, it again suddenly cut out, and ejected me. Waited 5-10-15 minutes, would restart, but sputter. Got it home put it on the trailer, and ran again on the trailer for 20-30 seconds no issue, before I turned it off.

Look at the plugs, they look nice and brown. It's like the stop switch is defective, but it doesn't seem to be, and then once it starts having an issue, I have to wait a while before it will run again, but seems to get progressively worse.

What should I look at? Thanks for the help!

Did some more testing.

On land it won't start now. Pulled one spark plug, and spark is intermittent. Sometimes it's there, and sometimes not at all.

When it's there, the other cylinder tries to turn over.

Stock ebox is probably fine. Replace start stop switch?

Well, found another thread where someone said to disconnect the black/white plug, and if it starts, its the stop button.

Spark returning, and it started with 1 cylinder lol! So it's the start stop switch.

Thanks guys!

With it cutting off like it is it definitely sounds electrical. I would take the start/stop switch apart and clean the contacts. This may be a silly question but are you using a yamaha lanyard? A buddy used his Kawasaki lanyard on my SN and it would cut out like that.

Mike,

It's a generic lanyard which lifts the lanyard post very high.

I ended up ordering a new start/stop switch. Should fix it.
